One of Monster Hunter’s most infamous siege battles is getting a second life in Wilds.
A new monster is heading to Monster Hunter Wilds, and long-time fans will know exactly what to expect. The massive Elder Dragon Gogmazios is returning to the series, bringing back one of the most memorable hunts from past games. Capcom gave players a brief first look during the Tokyo Game Show 2025 Capcom Online Special Program, confirming its arrival in Title Update 4 this December.
Who is Gogmazios in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Gogmazios first appeared in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on the Nintendo 3DS (2014 in Japan, 2015 worldwide). Often called the “Ancient Weapon” or “Dreadnaught Dragon,” this Elder Dragon earned its reputation as a living siege engine, a monster thought to be built for destruction rather than survival in nature.
In the lore of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Gogmazios was described as a calamity capable of levelling fortresses. Its tar and explosive power hinted that it had adapted to destroy human defences, making it more than just a predator, it was a creature of war. Its grim, deliberate presence, paired with a haunting battle theme, cemented it as one of the most memorable Elder Dragons in the series.

It towers over most other monsters with its fortress-like body. Armoured scales and molten fissures cover its frame, while its most infamous trait is the black tar-like substance it secretes. Gogmazios uses this tar to coat the battlefield, cover itself, and trap prey before igniting the substance in explosive attacks. The effect is less like a wild animal and more like fighting a walking war machine.
The original battle against Gogmazios was designed to feel like a climactic showdown. Hunters had to combine direct combat with siege weapons, chipping away at its heavy armour, especially around its head and back, to gradually expose weak points. Its sheer size, slow but devastating swings, and explosive counterattacks gave the encounter a unique rhythm compared to faster-paced Elder Dragons.
Defeating Gogmazios back then rewarded players with distinctive endgame weapons and armour, all tar-black in appearance and carrying explosive properties. The fight even had its own exclusive arena, underscoring its status as a “siege boss” unlike any other in the franchise.
Although these traits defined its original version, Capcom has not yet confirmed which of them will carry over into the Monster Hunter Wilds fight. For now, all Capcom has confirmed is that Gogmazios will arrive with Title Update 4 in December 2025. Details about how it will be adapted for Monster Hunter Wilds are still to come.
