The Xbox Series X is going to get more expensive to own.
Microsoft has announced more price increases for Xbox devices in the U.S. Prices for Xbox Series X|S consoles are going up by US$50 or US$20, depending on the device, although the company notes that “Pricing in countries outside the U.S. remains the same.”
These price increases come mere months after the last round of Xbox price hikes in May, which affected users globally.
Prices for Xbox hardware are going up
Microsoft is officially raising the price of Xbox hardware, yet again. The company announced in an Xbox Support FAQ post that the price hike was due “to changes in the macroeconomic environment” and that it understands “that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration.”
The change comes into effect on 3 October, and will see the following devices be adjusted in retail pricing:
- Xbox Series S 512: $399.99 ($20 increase)
- Xbox Series S 1TB: $449.99 ($20 increase)
- Xbox Series X Digital: $599.99 ($50 increase)
- Xbox Series X: $649.99 ($50 increase)
- Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition: $799.99 ($70 increase)
Thankfully, the price hike has not affected accessories like Xbox headsets and controllers. Microsoft wasn’t specific about the reasons behind this price hike, but it’s likely that the recent U.S. tariffs had some impact on the decision. Markets outside of the U.S. will not be affected by these changes.
This follows the last round of global Xbox price increases earlier in May this year, which saw consoles like the Xbox Series X get bumped up in price from US$499.99 to US$599.99. Starting from 3 October, the console will cost US$649.99–roughly US$150 more than it cost last year.
