The Super Mario Galaxy Movie announced for 2026 release
Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment’s US$1.3 billion-grossing smash hit video game adaptation The Super Mario Bros. Movie is predictably getting a sequel. During this week’s Nintendo Direct, the games giant announced that the upcoming movie will be an adaptation of its hit 2007 3D platformer Super Mario Galaxy.
Illumination and Nintendo are once again teaming up for the sequel, with Super Mario Bros. creator Shigeru Miyamoto noting that he was personally working on the movie “every day” and enjoying it. He also noted that he believes it will be worthy of the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary, of which this movie serves as the main event.
Besides a brief teaser that mostly served as a title reveal, details are scarce on the sequel. However, we do know that Keegan-Michael Key will return as Toad, Chris Pratt will return as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy will return as Princess Peach, and Charlie Day will return as Luigi.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be released on 3 April, 2026 in the US, and on 24 April, 2026 in Japan.
