The only real nod to Mortal Kombat II comes at the very end, when the franchise’s logo briefly flickers over the Uncaged Fury title card.
As the countdown continues for the official Mortal Kombat II trailer, Warner Bros. has surprised fans with a completely different kind of preview. Titled Uncaged Fury, this new teaser is a fake action movie trailer starring Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban. It is a love letter to 1990s martial arts cinema and a playful way to bring Cage back into the spotlight before the real fight begins.
Uncaged Fury brings '90s action cheese to life
Johnny Cage is no stranger to the spotlight. First introduced as a Hollywood action star who joins the Mortal Kombat tournament to prove he is more than just a showman, Cage quickly became one of the franchise’s most iconic characters. Known for his smug charm, flashy moves and over-the-top personality, he has remained a fan favourite through every generation of the game.
The fake trailer for Uncaged Fury dives headfirst into that legacy. Set up as one of Cage’s fictional action films from the 1990s, the clip leans into every martial arts cliché imaginable. There is a gravel-voiced narrator, a warehouse full of henchmen in dated outfits, slow-motion flips, and Cage shouting “showtime” before throwing his first punch.
The absurdity ramps up when a mysterious woman in a red dress fires a rocket launcher at him. Cage leaps into the air, the missile passes just under him, then somehow veers off course and destroys a helicopter. It is the kind of deliberately ridiculous moment that perfectly fits Cage’s exaggerated style.
Fans also get a glimpse of other fictional Cage films, including Cool Hand Cage, Hard to Cage, and Rebel Without a Cage. All are labelled as New Line Cinema productions, tying them back to the studio responsible for the actual Mortal Kombat films—both the 90s originals and the reboot series.
The only real nod to Mortal Kombat II comes at the very end, when the franchise’s logo briefly flickers over the Uncaged Fury title card. While it does not contain any actual footage from the upcoming movie, the teaser does a brilliant job of reintroducing Johnny Cage’s over-the-top personality and teasing the tone we can expect from his role in the sequel.
The real trailer for Mortal Kombat II drops 18 July 12:00 AM SGT/ 17 July 9:00 AM PST.
Mortal Kombat II is set to open in cinemas on 24 October 2025.
