PS5 and Xbox Series X|S users will have to wait until next year to play the game on console.
Dune: Awakening, Funcom’s massive open-world survival MMO set in the unforgiving deserts of Arrakis, has officially launched today on PC via Steam. While players can now dive into the harsh landscapes and political intrigue of the Dune universe, console fans have also received good news: the game is coming to PlayStation and Xbox consoles in 2026.
Console release on the horizon
In a press release, Funcom has confirmed that Dune: Awakening will launch on both PlayStation and Xbox sometime in 2026. The console version aims to bring the full experience to a broader audience, with no compromises on scale or gameplay depth. Players will be able to explore Arrakis, build alliances, and challenge the might of the Imperium on their preferred platform.
The console release is still in development, but the announcement signals Funcom’s long-term vision to support and expand the game's player base across platforms.
Set in the world made famous by Denis Villeneuve’s films and Herbert’s novels, Dune: Awakening combines survival gameplay with persistent MMO elements. Players must craft tools, build vehicles, and survive both sandstorms and sandworms, all while navigating shifting political alliances.
Players can choose to align with the Atreides or Harkonnen, influencing the shared world through combat, trade, and diplomacy. With hundreds of players per server, Arrakis feels alive, dangerous, and constantly evolving.
Unlike many online titles, Dune: Awakening follows a traditional business model–buy once and own it. The game features no subscription fees or microtransactions. Optional DLCs, including the new Season Pass, are available for those who want to expand their experience.
The Season Pass includes the “Wildlife of Arrakis” pack, showcasing four in-game statues of the planet’s most iconic creatures: the sandworm, chiroptera, kulon, and Muad’Dib. Three additional DLCs are planned for late 2025 through mid-2026, alongside free content updates.
Gosugamers was able to gain early access to the game, where we thought that Funcom did a great job of making a faithful adaptation of the world of Arrakis and its harsh environment, while combining it with survival mechanics in a multiplayer setting.
