Let’s Build a Dungeon has you run a game studio.
This week’s Southeast Asian Games Showcase gave us tons of game reveals from studios and creators from all over Southeast Asia, including Let’s Build a Dungeon. This game comes from Springloaded, a Singaporean game developer that is–and I’m quoting its demo announcement here–aiming to make “a game about the soulless corporate grind of making video games.”
Here’s a trailer:
Let’s Build a Dungeon turns players into MMO developers
Let’s Build a Dungeon is a game development management simulator from Springloaded, the developer behind Let’s Build a Zoo. In this game, players will staff up a game studio of their very own as they strive to build an MMORPG. That means they’ll have to manage all the bells and whistles of game development as well, for better or for worse.
Players will have to recruit staff for specific purposes, like artists and programmers, and manage marketing campaigns, development schedules, and their relationships with the press to push their games towards success. They’ll have to wrestle with many conundrums that affect real-life game studios, like the issue of staff crunch, and delaying games at the risk of financial failure.
All of this is in service of making a great MMORPG, which in itself will be filled with dungeons to explore and monsters to slay. Players will be able to actually play the games that they create, though what form these games take is entirely up to them.
The game will also feature a creative mode, wherein players can freely create their own video games in an open sandbox. Alternatively, they can try Just Build Mode, which sees up to four players share creative control.
Let’s Build a Dungeon does not have a release date yet, but a demo is now available on Steam.
