Phasmophobia is getting a movie adaptation
The up-to-four-player online co-op horror game Phasmophobia is getting a movie adaptation. Today, Blumhouse has been announced to produce a film based on the game, following its adaptation of another hit horror game: Five Nights at Freddy’s. Atomic Monster, the production company behind Annabelle and The Nun, headed by The Conjuring director James Wan, is also producing.
Kinetic Games director and Phasmophobia lead developer Daniel Knight spoke of the adaptation:
“We’re thrilled to officially announce that a Phasmophobia film adaption is in development–it’s a big moment for the whole Kinetic team, and the start of something really exciting. We never could’ve imagined the incredible heights this game would reach when it launched five years ago, and we’re so thankful to our amazing community for the lasting impact Phasmophobia has had in the gaming space and beyond. Working with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster marks an incredible new chapter for the game, and we can’t wait to share more as the project develops.”
Phasmophobia launched in early access all the way back in 2020 on PC. The game also launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles in October 2024. Despite the amount of time that has passed since its early access launch, however, the game has not officially been given a full release.
