This week, we’re tuning into a bevy of presentations to hear more about the future of videogames.
This week, we’re changing up the format of this series because it’s going to be a pretty big week for game announcements! In the absence of E3, Summer Game Fest 2024 has returned this month to cover roughly a week-long stream of exciting game announcements and trailers. All the excitement started with the Summer Game Fest Live presentation last weekend, which flowed right into more jam-packed events like the PC Gaming Show, Xbox Games Showcase and Devolver Direct.
We’ll be covering all the biggest news as it happens this week, but here’s a handy guide to this week’s game presentations.
What we’re watching: Summer Game Fest survival guide
In case you missed it, Summer Game Fest Live happened over the weekend on June 8 (MYT), showing off two hours’ worth of new and upcoming games from developers big and small. We covered all of those announcements here, but the big highlights were Lego Horizon Adventures, Civilization 7 and Valorant’s console limited beta.
After that, we got the annual Day of the Devs and Devolver Direct presentations on the same day, which dived into upcoming indie games. The next big presentation happened earlier today on June 10: Xbox Games Showcase 2024. We covered all of the show’s biggest announcements here, but our highlights are Doom: The Dark Ages, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the Perfect Dark reboot and Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred.
Right after the show, we got PC Gaming Show for a games presentation focused specifically on upcoming PC games. Now, we’re getting to stuff that hasn’t happened yet, starting with Ubisoft Forward at 2.30 a.m, June 11 (MYT). Ubisoft’s big annual games presentation will dive into its future release date, headlined by new previews for Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Hopefully, we'll see an update or two on Beyond Good and Evil 2 and XDefiant too.
While that seems to be the last big Summer Game Fest event on the docket this year, we do have a few potential wild cards that have yet to show up. We know that we’re getting a big summer Nintendo Direct at some point this week, thanks to confirmation from the company itself. However, it won’t include any news on the Nintendo Switch 2. Capcom, Square Enix and Electronic Arts have also historically hosted presentations during Summer Game Fest in years past, but all three developers are being uncharacteristically quiet this time around. There’s still time, however! In the meantime, stay tuned to our coverage of all these events here.
