Some players are already spotting a few familiar locations from Cyberpunk 2077 in the new trailer.
CD PROJEKT RED has released a new trailer for Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2, offering a fresh look at the upcoming standalone anime, while giving Cyberpunk 2077 players plenty to dissect ahead of its Netflix release this fall.
Produced in collaboration with Studio TRIGGER, the series follows an entirely new cast of characters in a standalone story set in Night City, exploring the city's darkest corners and what it means to become an edgerunner.
Alongside the trailer, CD PROJEKT RED also unveiled the anime's latest key visual, confirmed that fans can now learn more about the new cast through the official character website, and announced that the trailer's featured song, "You Can't Run From Me" by Rico Nasty is now available on major streaming platforms.
The studio also confirmed a dedicated Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 panel at Anime Expo on 3 July, where showrunner Bartosz Sztybor, executive producer Saya Elder, director Kai Ikarashi, voice actor Nazeeh Tarsha, who voices D, and host Danny Motta will discuss the series. Attendees will also get an exclusive screening of the anime's premiere episode, which will not be recorded or livestreamed.
What does the new Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 trailer reveal?
Beyond the new footage, the trailer offers another look at the anime's new cast and Night City setting ahead of its fall 2026 premiere, while CD PROJEKT RED also revealed new promotional artwork and opened the official character page for the series.
Fans heading to Anime Expo will also get an early look at the anime when the studio hosts its dedicated panel on 3 July, featuring Bartosz Sztybor, Saya Elder, Kai Ikarashi, Nazeeh Tarsha, and Danny Motta, alongside an exclusive screening of the premiere episode.
Which Cyberpunk 2077 locations appear in the Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 trailer?
While the trailer introduces a brand-new story, many Cyberpunk 2077 players have been more interested in figuring out exactly where that story takes place.
Across Reddit, fans have been comparing scenes from the trailer with locations found throughout Cyberpunk 2077, with several identifying one sequence as the unfinished skyscraper where V and Takemura meet during one of the game's main story missions.
Across Reddit, fans have been comparing scenes from the trailer with locations found throughout Cyberpunk 2077. Reddit user Dense_Organization76 identified one sequence as the unfinished skyscraper where V and Takemura meet during one of the game's main story missions.
Others believe the opening sequence takes place in Santo Domingo. Reddit user Irishimpulse questioned Maelstrom's presence there, writing, "It always starts in Santo Domingo... Wait, Maelstrom don't have any ground in Santo, that's Sixth street turf through and through." The comment prompted further discussion over whether gang territories are as rigid as they appear in-game. Meanwhile, Reddit user Wacky-Walnuts suggested that territories may not be as fixed as they seem.
The discussion has also expanded beyond locations and into the anime's place in the timeline. Reddit user Wacky-Walnuts said they hoped the story takes place after V's journey so other characters could react to the merc's exploits, while Traditional-Ad3518 argued Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 would work better if it remained as self-contained as the original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Will Cyberpunk 2077 get a Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 crossover update?
The trailer has also reignited speculation over whether CD PROJEKT RED could release another Cyberpunk 2077 crossover update, similar to the one that accompanied the original Edgerunners.
Many players believe any update would likely remain modest, with hopes centred on another iconic weapon, cosmetics, collectibles, or a short side quest, rather than a major expansion.
While some say that there could just be a few minor eater eggs, Reddit user MoofDeMoose wrote that the game, "Could get a mission/cosmetic like we did for S1, or even some iconic weapons."
Reddit user Volkor_Destory_Knees also added that the devs could "probably do something similar to the original Edgerunners update. Short little side quest, a few easter eggs, and probably a weapon/ some clothing. Wouldn’t expect anything beyond that." Many believe that this is possible, especially since player count has increased when the announcement was made.
Others pointed out that Cyberpunk 2077 is now primarily supported through smaller updates, while CD PROJEKT RED focuses on the next Cyberpunk game, making a lightweight crossover seem more likely than a substantial content expansion.
For now, however, CD PROJEKT RED has yet to reveal whether Cyberpunk 2077 will receive another crossover update alongside the release of the new series. Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 is coming out in Fall 2026.
