We’re finally getting the first batch of Overwatch 2’s long-awaited story missions this August.
Blizzard Entertainment has released a trailer for Overwatch 2: Invasion, the biggest content drop this sequel has seen since launch. Invasion will include the first batch of Overwatch 2’s long-awaited PvE story missions, a new game mode called Flashpoint and a new Support hero to boot. Invasion launches on August 10, 2023.

Invasion sees the release of three story missions for Overwatch 2, which kick off with the present-day reformation of the Overwatch team. Null Sector has returned with an army of machines to launch a global invasion, and Overwatch - a team originally created to stop a war between Omnics and humans - is the only group prepared to combat the threat worldwide.
Null Sector is going around the world destroying cities and mysteriously kidnapping innocent Omnics for their own nefarious purposes, and the new and improved Overwatch team is sent out to investigate their plans and put a stop to them. These three missions take place in Rio de Janeiro, Toronto and Gothenburg - the latter of which will be an all-new map for the game. A bonus co-op mission will also be available in Kings Row, where new areas of the map have been opened up for a Push-like game mode featuring Tracer and her friends from the Omnic Underworld.
Overwatch 2: Invasion will also add the sequel’s first new PvP game mode since launch, called Flashpoint. Flashpoint will add two of the game’s biggest PvP maps to date, and involves teams fighting for control of objectives across the maps called Flashpoints. Each team has to capture three Flashpoints before the enemy team, but there is no downtime between captured objectives, so they’ll have to move fast to secure the necessary objectives.
A new Hero Mastery mode adds unique training courses that let players practice with specific heroes on the roster, with each course having global leaderboards to climb if you’re into that sort of thing. Hero Mastery won’t support all heroes at launch however, with more hero courses coming in future seasons. The Practice Range is also getting a new firing range that lets you practice your aim better.
We also got a brief tease at Overwatch 2’s next support hero, who appears to be a feminine character themed after Peruvian mythology, wearing a cape and sporting an absolutely massive gun. Check out all the other games Xbox and Bethesda showed off today here.
