Japan will be opening its very first esports high school next spring

Japan just made high school a lot more interesting.

If you're about to enter high school, you live in Japan, and you love video games, this could very well change your life. According to Kotaku, junior high school students in Japan can now enrol in a new type of learning institution that is more befitting of the 21st century, an esports high school. The school itself is called 'Esports Koutou Gakuin', which translates to 'Esports High School'. You can check out the school's official website here.

The school is backed by the esports arm of Japanese telco giant, NTT as well as the Japanese professional football team, Tokyo Verdy. Based in the trendy and chic Shibuya district, the school is everything a burgeoning pro-am player will be looking for. The esports high school will have 40 Galleria XA7C-R37 gaming PCs that are fitted with Intel Core i7-11700 CPUs and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 GPUs.

As for the curriculum, students will focus on video game genres like first- and third-person shooters, real-time strategy, as well as multiplayer online battle arenas to name a few. However, students will do more than just study video games. They will also participate in the normal Japanese high school syllabus. The school will also feature an individual study program for struggling students.

The staff will be made up of professional esports players as well as industry professionals from both NTT's esports outfit and Tokyo Verdy. There is no news about admissions fees and such as of yet.
