PARIVISION came one step closer to the Dota 2 Esports World Cup title by finally ending Rune Eaters' Cinderella Run.
Eastern European Dota 2 juggernauts
PARIVISION ended
Rune Eaters Esports' Cinderella Run in the Dota 2 Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026 with a 2-0 sweep in the Playoff quarterfinals. With their victory, PARIVISION advanced to the semifinals to face fellow tournament favourites
Team Yandex for a spot in the grand finals.
PARIVISION have also guaranteed themselves at least a Top 4 finish and US$120,000 in winnings. As arguably the biggest favourite to claim the Dota 2 EWC championship, PARIVISION will now be looking to win their second Tier 1 tournament title this season after their first from DreamLeague Season 29 before they attempt to claim the Aegis of Champions at The International (TI) 2026 next month.
Meanwhile, Rune Eaters bow out of the Dota 2 EWC with a commendable 5th-8th place finish and US$70,000 in consolation. It's still an impressive result for the underdog squad when considering no one expected them to even make it this far. After all, the current iteration of the Rune Eaters roster was only assembled a little over two months ago to represent the organisation in its first-ever Tier 1 tournament appearance.
PARIVISION and Rune Eaters' widely different paths to the Playoffs
PARIVISION have been nigh-unstoppable in the Dota 2 EWC so far. They earned a direct berth to the Playoffs after a near-perfect run through the Group Stage, where they finished as the top seed of Group C with a 9-1 record. PARIVISION notably swept the likes of
Vici Gaming,
MOUZ,
REKONIX, and
Team Nemesis. Their sole loss came in a 1-1 draw with
Team Spirit in the final day of the Group Stage.
PARIVISION earned a lengthy break before the Playoffs, though no one expected Rune Eaters would end up being their opponent.
Rune Eaters were seeded into Group A of the Group Stage, where they were matched up against reigning The International (TI) champions
Team Falcons,
BetBoom Team,
Xtreme Gaming,
GamerLegion, and Poor Rangers.
While Rune Eaters were swept in their match against Falcons, they showed glimpses of their potential by forcing unexpected 1-1 draws against powerhouse teams in BetBoom and Xtreme. With another 1-1 draw against GamerLegion and a much-needed 2-0 victory over Poor Rangers, Rune Eaters finished the Group Stage as the third seed of Group A with a respectable 5-5 record.
Rune Eaters then advanced to the Survival Stage, where they needed to win two best-of-three matches to secure a spot in the Playoffs. Against all odds, Rune Eaters did just that by first defeating
Virtus.pro in the opening round then soundly sweeping
Aurora Gaming to lock in a Playoff berth.
For Rune Eaters' Cinderella Run to continue, they need to defeat arguably the biggest favourites to claim the Dota 2 EWC title in the opening round of the single-elimination Playoffs. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be.
PARIVISION ends Rune Eaters' Cinderella Run at the Dota 2 Esports World Cup
PARIVISION came out swinging to start the series by outclassing Rune Eaters in a 36-minute stomp. Alan “Satanic” Gallyamov on Shadow Fiend paced his team's lopsided 43-14 kill lead in the series opener with a whopping 19 kills and four assists on two deaths.
Evgeniy “Noticed” Ignatenko on Dawnbreaker added 10 kills and 18 assists on just one death while
Volodymyr “No[o]ne” Minenko on Pangolier pitched in with eight kills and 20 assists on two deaths.
Despite Rune Eaters' best efforts to mount a comeback in game two, it ended up being a more one-sided affair than game one. PARIVISION secured the 2-0 series sweep in a 30-minute rout where they once again racked up 43 kills while only conceding nine deaths. Satanic notably showed out in the closeout game, notching 22 kills and eight assists on one death as Nature's Prophet. Meanwhile, No[o]ne on Pangolier once more had 10 kills and 20 assists on one death.
How the Dota 2 EWC Playoffs is shaping up
The Dota 2 EWC Playoffs began with the final eight teams, comprising Group Stage leaders
Nigma Galaxy, Team Yandex, Team Falcons, and PARIVISION, alongside Survival Stage winners
BetBoom Team, Vici Gaming, Team Spirit, and Rune Eaters.
Team Spirit and Rune Eaters were eliminated from contention, while Team Yandex and PARIVISION advanced to the semifinals, with the conclusion of the first day of the Playoffs.
Tomorrow, 17 July, will see Nigma Galaxy take on BetBoom Team, followed by a match between Team Falcons and Vici Gaming. The winners of both series will face each other in the semifinal round.
Semifinal winners will then progress to the grand finals, where they will clash in a best-of-five series on 19 July for the EWC glory and the lion's share of US$750,000 out of the US$2 million prize pool. Before that, teams that lost their semifinal clash will compete in a third-place match to determine the tournament’s final standings.
What is the Dota 2 Esports World Cup?
The Dota 2 tournament at the Esports World Cup 2026 will be the last Tier 1 tournament of the 2025-2026 competitive Dota 2 season, before it culminates in The International 2026 in August. With many of the teams competing in the EWC also qualified for this year's Dota 2 world championship tournament, it should serve as a good preview for the battle for the Aegis of Champions next month.
The Dota 2 EWC features 24 of the best Dota 2 teams in the world and will take place from 7 to 19 July in the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles in Paris, France. The teams will be fighting for EWC glory and the lion's share of US$750,000, out of the tournament's US$25 million prize pool.
The Dota 2 EWC is split into three stages; the Group Stage from 7 to 12 July, the Survival Stage from 14 to 15 July, and the Playoffs from 16 to 19 July.
The Group Stage will see the 24 teams split into four groups of six teams each to play in a single round-robin with best-of-two matches. The top team from each group will advance directly to the Playoffs, the second to fourth-placed teams will move to the Survival Stage, while the two bottom finishers will be among the first to be eliminated.
The Survival Stage will feature the 12 teams that finished third to fourth in their respective groups during the Group Stage, with four spots in the Playoffs up for grabs in a single-elimination bracket with best-of-three matches. The Survival Stage will open with the third and fourth seeds from different groups taking each other on, with the winners moving on to face the second place teams for the four Playoff spots.
Finally, the Playoffs will be a single-elimination bracket featuring the four teams that finished as the top seeds of their groups in the Group Stage, as well as the four teams that made it out of the Survival Stage. All matches in the Playoffs will be a best-of-three except for the grand finals, which will be a full best-of-five series.
