A three-way tiebreaker also took place to finalise Group B standings.
DreamLeague Season 29 wrapped up its Group Stage last night, finalising the upper and lower bracket seeding for the Playoffs round. While Group A delivered a more straightforward outcome, Group B saw a much closer contest, with the top seeds sharing the same score and a three-way tiebreaker unfolding to decide the bracket seedings.
NAVI holds a narrow lead in Group B of DreamLeague Season 29
Dark horse
Natus Vincere (NAVI) surprisingly led the standings, posting a 6-1 scoreline with a single loss to group favourites
PARIVISION. This marks the team’s first promising performance since bringing young player Tamir “daze” Tokpanov into the lineup last March.
PARIVISION came in a very close second, however, sharing the same score as NAVI but suffering more overall match losses due to four separate 2-1 victories. Interestingly, the team’s only 0-2 loss came against South America’s
PlayTime. The team seems on track to continue their consistent cadence this season so far.
Coming in third was
BetBoom Team, the champions of the recent PGL Wallachia Season 8. The team already looked shakier compared to their undefeated form during that triumphant event, but they still remained consistent enough to secure an upper bracket berth. BetBoom lost three series against PARIVISION,
Tundra Esports, and NAVI, while winning the remaining four.
Fourth to sixth place saw identical results for Tundra Esports, PlayTime, and
Xtreme Gaming, with all three teams ending on a 3-4 scoreline–leading to a three-way tiebreaker to conclude the Group Stage.
What happened in the tiebreaker round?
The Group B tiebreakers featured a three-way best-of-one (BO1) showdown to determine the fourth and final upper bracket representative from the group.
PlayTime opened the decider round with a respectable win over Xtreme. But once Tundra’s turn came around, the storied organisation immediately asserted its authority by sweeping both of its tiebreaker matches.
While Tundra may not have performed to its usual standard at DreamLeague Season 29 so far, the team still showed plenty of experience and discipline this round, dismantling PlayTime in 27 minutes before pulling off a patient 63-minute comeback against Xtreme–rightfully earning the final upper bracket berth.
Group B unfortunately also had to bid farewell to its bottom-placed teams.
Nigma Galaxy posted a decent showing with two series wins over Xtreme and
REKONIX, but it was not enough to lift them out of the elimination zone.
Southeast Asia’s REKONIX crashed out in last place with only a single series win, albeit a respectable sweep over Tundra–something the team can still take pride in despite the disappointing finish.
