ESL One Birmingham 2026 - Aurora Gaming qualify for Playoffs, REKONIX first to be eliminated

Aurora Gaming continue their dominant start in ESL One Birmingham 2026 by securing an upper bracket berth in the Playoffs.

The Dota 2 action is heating up at the ESL One Birmingham 2026 Group Stage as Aurora Gaming locked up the top spot in Group B, becoming the first team to qualify for the Playoffs and securing an upper bracket berth. Over in Group A, Team Yandex have overtaken Tundra Esports and MOUZ for the lead while REKONIX became the first team to be eliminated.

But just after Day 3 of the Group Stage concluded and the teams still in contention for a Playoff spot strategised for the final day of the stage, Dota 2 developer Valve threw a wrench in their plans by suddenly releasing the massive Patch 7.41. Not only did the new update remove the ‘Facets’ mechanic, it also added nine new items to the game. With Patch 7.41 shaking up the metagame out of nowhere, the fourth and final day of the ESL One Birmingham 2026 Group Stage will be a must-watch.

Read on as we break down all of the action in Day 3 of ESL One Birmingham 2026:

How Mikoto's sustained excellence fueled Aurora's dominant Group Stage campaign

After Aurora caught fire in Day 2 of the Group Stage, the Eastern European-Southeast Asian powerhouse roster carried their momentum into Day 3 to become the first team to qualify for the ESL One Birmingham 2026 Playoffs. Aurora scored sweeps over OG and Virtus.pro to improve their record to 11-1, locking up the top spot in Group B and securing an upper bracket semifinals berth in the Playoffs.

Indonesian mid laner Rafli Fathur “Mikoto” Rahman continues to fuel Aurora's dominance with as a high-tempo playmaker. In his four games in Day 3, Mikoto racked up a total of 23 kills and 54 assists against five deaths, including a clean seven-kill, 13-assist performance on Puck in game one of Aurora's match against OG. Mikoto continues to lead all players in Birmingham in terms of KDA, averaging 9.75 kills and 12.75 assists against 1.25 deaths.

With Aurora already locking up the top spot in Group B, three Playoff spots remain up for grabs among the remaining seven teams. Team Spirit are in second place with a 9-3 record, putting them in prime position to claim the second upper bracket berth in the group. Reigning The International champions Team Falcons are in third with a 7-5 record, virtually guaranteed to start the Playoffs in the lower bracket.

That leaves the fourth and final Playoff spot in Group B with all five remaining teams in the group still in contention. Virtus.pro hold a narrow lead with a 5-7 record while OG, Nigma Galaxy, Xtreme Gaming, and paiN Gaming are all tied up at 4-8. Virtus.pro need to secure a 2-0 sweep over Falcons in order to guarantee a Playoff spot, as a 1-1 draw or a 0-2 loss leave them vulnerable to potential tiebreakers with the four 4-8 teams.

Team Yandex take over the lead in Group A while REKONIX are first to bow out

After a slow and steady march up the standings over the past two days of competition, Eastern European powerhouse Yandex are now squarely in the lead in Group A with a 10-2 record. Yandex secured 2-0 victories over GamerLegion and BetBoom Team to all but guarantee themselves an upper bracket berth.

Tundra and MOUZ finally stumbled after vying for the top spot of Group A since the Group Stage started and now sit second and third, respectively. Day 3 action in Group A kicked off with Tundra sweeping MOUZ, and while MOUZ bounced back with a 2-0 sweep of their own over PARIVISION, Tundra were forced to a 1-1 draw by Yakult Brothers. Tundra are likely to secure the second upper bracket spot in Group A as their final match of the Group Stage will be against the already-eliminated REKONIX, while MOUZ will be facing a much tougher opponent in Yandex.

The fourth and final Playoff spot in Group A will be up for grabs between GamerLegion (6-6), Yakult Brothers (5-7), BetBoom (4-8), and PARIVISION (4-8). Fittingly, these four will be facing off in the final day of the Group Stage, with GamerLegion taking on BetBoom while Yakult Brothers are matched up against PARIVISION. Each squad need to secure a 2-0 victory to give themselves the best shot at making the Playoffs. If both matches end in a 1-1 draw, then GamerLegion will be the ones to advance.

Finally, REKONIX are the first team to be eliminated from ESL One Birmingham 2026 after only managing two wins out of 12 games in the first three days of competition. They will have one last match against Tundra before flying home with US$20,000 for their efforts, split between US$10,000 apiece for the playing roster and their organisation.
