Tundra Esports have been knocked out of The International 2025 by HEROIC

Tundra Esports exit The International 2025 in 7th-8th place, and with over US$104,000 in consolation.

Western Europe's Tundra Esports are the first team to get knocked out of The International (TI) 2025 Playoffs after falling victim to a 0-2 upset at the hands of South America's HEROIC in the first round of the lower bracket on Friday (12 September).

Both Tundra and HEROIC found themselves in the lower bracket after getting swept in the upper bracket quarterfinals in the opening day of the Playoffs. Tundra were knocked down by tournament favourites Xtreme Gaming, while HEROIC were made quick work of by Eastern Europe's PARIVISION.

Tundra were favoured coming into the series, even if they have been playing without their full roster. Matthew “Whitemon” Filemon encountered visa issues two weeks before TI 2025, prompting the team to tap Tobias “Tobi” Buchner as a last-minute stand-in. Even so, Tundra made a good account of themselves, notably knocking out defending champions Team Liquid to secure their spot in the Playoffs.

Despite the odds stacked against them, HEROIC outclassed Tundra to keep their tournament hopes alive. The South American squad took game one in just under 34 minutes, and then closed out the series in a 46-minute game two.

With their victory, HEROIC have secured at least a Top 6 finish as well as just under US$130,000 in winnings. It is the best placement by a South American team at TI since Thunder Awaken's Top 6 finish at TI 2022. HEROIC now advance to the lower bracket quarterfinals, where they will face off against one of the losers of the upper bracket semifinals.

Meanwhile, Tundra exit TI 2025 in 7th-8th place, and will take home over US$104,000 in consolation. While it's a solid result when considering the team had to play with a last-minute stand-in, it's still a disappointing outcome for a team that was considered the very best in the world just earlier this year.
