OG’s prolonged struggles continue as we head into the second half of the season.
Prominent Western European Dota 2 team,
OG, have been eliminated from the FISSURE Universe: Episode 6 Play-In, the qualifier stage for the main event. With a final Group Stage record of one draw and three series losses, OG was handed an early exit—finishing dead last in the qualifier.
This disappointing result is just the latest entry in a long line of setbacks for the team. Despite being a staple in the Dota 2 scene, OG have been stuck in a prolonged slump lasting over three years, during which the team underwent relentless roster shuffles and suffered continued poor results.
Once celebrated for their iconic back-to-back The International (TI) championships, OG is now nowhere near its former glory. Unfortunately, the season is shaping up to be yet another disappointing chapter for the organization.
A turbulent run in 2025 so far
OG entered the 2024/2025 season with a promising roster, fielding TI 2022 winner Leon “Nine” Kirilin, TI 2018 finalist
Jian Wei “xNova-” Yap, top Southeast Asian carry
Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon, South American standout offlaner
Adrian “Wisper” Cespedes Dobles, and rising British talent
Matthew “Ari” Walker. The lineup struck a balance between veteran experience and fresh talent, a formula often successful in the pro scene, which led to raised hopes among fans.
However, the mix didn’t click. Just three months in, the roster began to dissolve as players gradually departed following disappointing results.
OG then entered an experimental phase, fielding trial players throughout March and April. Eventually, a new roster was finalized in May, featuring Indji “Shad” Lub (on loan from
Natus Vincere), Daniel “Stormstormer” Schoetzau,
Mihajlo “MikSa`” Jovanovic,
Tamir “daze” Tokpanov, and
Ivan “Kidaro” Bondarev.
The new roster was made even more intriguing with Johan “N0tail” Sundstein returning from inactivity to take over the coaching seat. N0tail is not only a co-owner of OG, but also a prolific figure who was a part of the roster that brought the two-time world champion titles to OG in 2018 and 2019.
However, even his presence wasn’t enough to trigger any change. Despite N0tail at the helm, OG’s results remain consistently subpar, failing to qualify for FISSURE Universe Episode 5 and then being eliminated early from the Esports World Cup 2025 Dota 2 qualifier.
There was a momentary spark during TI 2025's Western European regional qualifier, where OG finished third and missed out on the TI slot by a single game. That run briefly boosted hope and expectations for the team. But it didn’t take long for OG to quickly regress back into old habits.
The team received a direct invite to PGL Wallachia Season 5, only to finish near the bottom in 12th–14th place. In the CCT Season 2 Series 2, OG came close to victory, a win that would’ve been their first in three years, albeit at a Tier 3 event. Unfortunately, daze suffered connection issues during the finals, forcing N0tail to stand in. What could have been a much-needed spark for redemption ended in a 0–3 defeat.
OG holds on through the storm
Their most recent result, where they were eliminated early from FISSURE Universe: Episode 6, marks OG’s eighth consecutive failed qualifier this season.
Next up, OG will compete in CCT Season 2 Series 3, where they have been directly seeded into the Playoffs alongside fellow direct invites
MOUZ,
AVULUS, and
1win. The team’s relentless struggles have exhausted expectations, but the team fights on, and eyes remain on them to see if they can somehow find their magic once again.
