Dota 2 community is invited once more to showcase its skills and creativity in The International Short Film Contest, which comes with over $40,000 in prize money.
This year’s Dota 2 Short Film Contest deadline for submitting your work is set for August 18, 2024, at 3:00pm PDT. There is no limit on how many submissions a single user can make, but a full list of rules must be followed for a submission to be validated by Valve.
Dota 2 Short Film Contest entry rules
- Entries must be no longer than 90 seconds.
- Entries must pertain to Dota 2.
- Entries can use any form or combination of animation or live-action technique in their creation. Using Source Filmmaker is not a requirement.
- Each entry must be at least 1080p.
- Entries may use IP from any Valve game.
- If an entry uses any non-Valve IP, the entrants must be the copyright owner or have explicit, written permission from the owner. Under the Steam Subscriber Agreement, entrants are required to warrant to Valve that they have all necessary rights and permissions in order for the entry to be considered. Any submissions found to be infringing non-Valve IP will be disqualified. All contributors identified and participating in the entry, and entrants must be able to provide evidence of design process upon request. Note that for items from Valve game workshops, entries need to provide a link on the workshop page to the items used, but do not need explicit permission from the creator, since submission to the workshop automatically grants permission to use the item.
- Entries must be new creations made specifically for the Dota 2 Short Film Contest 2024.
- Entries must be free of advertisements.
- Contest entries must be submitted to the Steam Workshop under the 'Dota 2 - Short Film Contest 2024' game. DO NOT submit the videos under 'Dota 2'. Entries must be submitted no later than 15:00:00 Pacific Daylight Savings Time on Sunday August 18th, 2024. The submission process must be completed, including uploading the video and filling out workshop submission dialogs, before the submission period ends.
- Entries must comply with the Steam Subscriber Agreement.
- Entries must be a completed and payable 'Dota 2 - Short Film Contest 2024' Workshop submission with valid banking and tax information.
- Entries generated by script, macro or other automated means will be void. Valve is not responsible for misdirected, incomplete, lost, late, illegible, undelivered, inaccurate, or delayed entries, or for technical, hardware, or software failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incomplete, garbled, or delayed computer transmissions or other errors or problems that may limit or affect a person’s ability to participate in the Contest. In the event of sabotage, acts of God, terrorism, or threats thereof, computer virus or other events or causes beyond Valve’s control, which corrupt the integrity, administration, security or proper operation of the Contest, Valve reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, cancel or suspend the Contest. In such an event, Valve reserves the right to award prizes from among all eligible, non-suspect entries received prior modification, cancellation or suspension. False or deceptive entries or acts will render the entrant ineligible.

- 2nd place: $10,000
- 3rd place: $5,000
- 4th-10th place: $500
The International 2023 winner
Once the deadline ends, the Dota 2 community can enter the workshop on Steam and vote for their favourites. The top 10 finalists will have their videos showcased on the official The International 2024 live broadcast.
