Lima Major playoffs bracket set

Twelve teams out of the 18 participating teams at the Lima Major made it to the playoffs after an intense five-day marathon of group stage matches.

At the end of the single round-robin, two-game series group stage battle, three teams from each group saw their Lima Major dream cut short while those who placed top four in each group were rewarded with an upper bracket start in the playoffs. The 5th and 6th placed teams from each group will start in the lower bracket rounds, but the good news is that each series there is a best-of-three.

To no one’s surprise, Western European teams quite dominated the group play, with only Tundra Esports somewhat failing to rise to the expectations and clinching only a lower bracket seed. Both group leaders come from the WEU regional league. Gaimin Gladiators are the top team in Group A, while Team Liquid took Group B by storm.

In Group A, the biggest surprise came from Talon Esports, who secured themselves a top 4 finish while the SEA top seed team, Execration fell short and won’t be stepping onto the Arena 1 stage for the playoffs. Unfortunately for the Southeast Asia fans, two of their teams didn’t make the cut to the playoffs as Geek Slate have also been eliminated.

Group B also held a shocking surprise. BetBoom Team, who was regarded as one of the main favorites to make a deep run at the Lima Major with their star-studded lineup struggled greatly and got eliminated leaving the EEU region with just one representative in the playoffs.

With the groups done and dusted, the Major is taking a day off and will resume on Tuesday, February 28 with the upper bracket matches. The action is set to kick off at 10:00 PET/16:00 CET, the entire first round of matches in the upper bracket being expected to be played on the first day of the playoffs.
