Evil Geniuses crush Quincy Crew 2-0 to take a big step towards the Dota 2 Stockholm Major

Evil Geniuses put a foot in the right direction for qualification to the second DPC Major when they took down Quincy Crew 2-0 in a convincing fashion.

Ever since Jesse “Jerax” Vainikka joined Evil Geniuses in December 2021, their performances have dropped a bit. Recently, EG haven’t been the dominating NA powerhouse they were for the past few years, and that is possibly because the new roster is in the process of finding the best way to play together. But looking at how the team has been progressing in Division 1 of DPC NA 2021/2022 Tour 2, one might think that they are nearly back to their best.

In Tour 1, EG finished third behind Quincy Crew and TSM FTX in the NA DPC League, and suffered a 2-3 defeat in the grand finals of the NA Regional Finals against TSM. But since that defeat, they have come roaring back in Tour 2 to win their first five series, with the most recent one being a beat down of one of their major rivals in the region, Quincy Crew.

The series was an anticipated one, with both teams going in with a perfect 4-0 record. Games between the top 3 teams in North America are extremely significant as NA only has two slots for the DPC Major. But the way things panned out was completely unexpected. There was nothing exciting in EG’s 2-0 win, in which both games ended before the half hour mark. Quincy Crew just failed to show up.

In game 1, Quincy Crew went for a Templar Assassin lineup, but EG’s Chaos Knight was more than able to match the pace of a TA lineup and take over the game before she could get enough farm. In game 2, it was the Timbersaw and Techies show for Evil Geniuses, against which Quincy Crew did not have an answer.

This doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the Major dream for Quincy Crew. They will have to defeat TSM FTX on the final day of week 6, which is the day the league ends. If TSM manage to beat EG, then a win for QC on the final day will mean a three way tie (assuming all three teams don’t lose to any of the other teams). But  if TSM lose to EG, the faceoff on the final day will be a decider for who travels to the second DPC Major in Stockholm along with EG.

It definitely seems Evil Geniuses have found their lost charisma in the last few weeks. They will be itching to get revenge on TSM, and that chance will present itself on the 16th of April, when the two teams take on each other in Division 1 of the NA DPC League.
