NoPing's dramatic first place finish to DPC 2021 Season 2 league

NoPing claims the top spot in the South America DPC 2021 Season 2 league after a dramatic last series and then a 2:0 sweep over beastcoast in tie-breakers.

The DPC 2021 Season 2 league final series was a live broadcast on local television. It was an intense series between NoPing e-sports and beastcoast. NoPing had secured A spot at the WePlay AniMajor earlier in the season. A win for them, a loss of beastcoast would have given Thunder Predator another shot and potential to secure their TI invite. The loss gave beastcoast a spot in the AniMajor and tiebreakers for seeding.

Never has South America had so much riding on it at once and been such a highly contested region. In the last years, and especially with the league format, the once-neglected region has risen to the top and has the potential to see three teams at The International this year.

Last series

In Game 1 of the last series  NoPing’s player William “hFn” Medeiros called 'gg' at minute 22 with two Tier 2 and one tier 1 tower up, after losing a team fight. It was followed by a relatively quick and one-sided win for NoPing to tie up the series.

Then, in Game 3, NoPing Jose Leonardo "Panda" Padilla Hernandez called 'gg' at minute 25 with two Tier 2 towers and one Tier 3 tower, again after losing a team fight.

The behavior and results drew ire from the community which viewed the behavior as poor sportsmanship.

Tiebreaker impact

Interestingly enough, NoPing came back shortly after for the tie-breaker between them and beastcoast with two dominant wins for a 2:0 sweep into first place.

ThunderPredator took to social media to cry foul play almost immediately after and requested that both Valve and OGA investigate the series further.

NoPing has assured the fans and Thunder Predator that the first series was not bad manners but a source of anxiety and stress.

Farith "Matthew" Puente took the first 20 minutes of his stream to also explain to viewers the situation

From minute 28:50 "Panda calls gg and disconnects, DarkMago says misclick to have a chance to reconnect but he had already left the game. That's what happened, we all turned to see his screen angry to tell him why he did that and when we saw him he was shaking with teary eyes and said "sorry but I can't keep playing"; like when you want to escape from something." ... "That's what happened, we know it can lead to misinterpretations, that he ragequitted, but that's what happened. That's what we will explain to the tourneys organization"

Some will find Panda's behaviors familiar and symptoms of panic attacks or heightened anxiety. No doubt the inexperienced players are navigating through an intense amount of pressure and a wide array of emotions.

Regardless of the specific reasons for the actions, it goes without saying that the SA DPC 2021 Season 2 league ended with quite a dramatic flair.
