The Zotac Cup playoffs are set and ready to go

The Zotac Cup group stage finished earlier today in Taipei and unfortunately for two of the competitors, this is where their adventure ends. For six other teams the tournament just begins.

Warriors Gaming Unity and Team Singularity have finished at the bottom of their groups after two days of best-of-one matches and will have to watch the rest of the event unfolding at Computex only hoping that next time they will do better.

Both Singularity and WG Unity have secured their tickets to Taipei, Taiwan via a merciless open qualifiers gauntlet. It seems that the online performance couldn’t be matched once they started to play at Computex, the venue for Zotac’s first Dota 2 event. Although the group stage was played in the same best-of-one format as the qualifiers, none of these two teams managed to take a game from their opponents.

The last and decisive round in the group stage was, however, a bo3 series and Singularity did manage to win game two against Danish Bears, but they lost to an Infest bomb combo in the last game. Sadly for the Malaysian fans, WG Unity exits the tournament without a single win to their name.

But, one team from Malaysia is still in the cards as they did make it to the playoffs. Fnatic are at their first LAN event since January, when they competed at ESL One Genting. Their roster changed multiple times since then and despite struggling to adapt faster than others to the new meta and to the new roster, losing therefore the qualifiers for all other LANs scheduled for this Summer, they look quite ready for the big battles after the first two days at Zotac Cup. Fnatic finished second in Group B, their only loss being registered against NP, who are the leaders of the group.

In group A, Newbee had no problem securing the first seed, followed by the other Chinese team at this event, iG Vitality who are forced to play with Lee 'kYxY' Kong Yang as stand in for Zhang 'Paparazi' Chengjun who failed to get his visa for Taiwan.

Newbee and NP advanced straight into the playoffs semifinals, and will have a day off from the competition. The other four teams that made it to the playoffs will begin the race for the Zotac Cup title tomorrow, June 1st in a single elimination, best-of-three bracket.
