Wings Gaming drops out of Dota Pit Season 5

Direct invite Wings Gaming will be dropping out of the Dota Pit Season 5's LAN finals due to visa issues.

Finding themselves in a situation where the team cannot secure a Croatian visa before the Dota Pit Season 5 LAN finals on the 19th of January, Wings Gaming has been forced to give up their direct invite to the event. In a statement released by Wings Gaming, the reason for their inability to secure a visa is due to time constraints arising from their participation in the ESL One Genting LAN event on the 6th to 8th of January.

Given that the event is quickly approaching, Chinese teams which can replace Wings are becoming increasingly limited, hence, it is likely that a European team will replace the Chinese direct invite.

Statement from Wings Gaming's Twitter:

After we finished Boston Major, we were back to China. Wings started to transact the Visa of Croatia and Malaysia. However, Croatia Visa needed 15 to 25 days to process. The Croatia Visa could not finish transaction, before we joined in ESL One in Malaysia. Unfortunately, after we finished ESL One, there is no enough time for the processing of Croatia Visa. During the communication with the sponsor (Dota Pit), we have to cancel the schedule of Pit DOTA.

In addition to Wings, Newbee dropped out of the tournament earlier this month, citing the same issues. Newbee secured their qualification through the Chinese qualifiers and was replaced by Chinese qualifiers second place finisher, iG.

The Dota Pit Season 5 LAN finals will be taking place from the 19th to 22nd of January in Split, Croatia at the Spaladium Arena. The event features eight teams from around the world fighting for a $125,000 prize pool.
