Vici Gaming win the first open qualifiers in the Chinese region

The Chinese qualifiers are held on Perfect World servers and were the first to start yesterday. Eight teams received an invite for closed qualifiers, leaving Vici Gaming, NewBee Young, CDEC Avenger and many more to make their way through the open bracket.

The fourth place finishers at TI5 and one of the strongest teams last year in China, Vici Gaming found themselves forced to take the difficult route after they decided to add Liu 'Sylar' Jiajun outside the shuffle period. The Chinese all stars line-up (BurNIng, Sylar, rOtK, Cty and Hym) made it through the bo1 gauntlet and started day two facing the two FTD clubs in the quarter and semifinals. On the other side of the bracket it was between NewBee Young, CDEC Avenger and EHOME.Keen to decide who would reach the grand finals.

NewBee Young were bested by EHOME.Keen in the bo1 quarterfinals but CDEC.A survived up to the bo3 grand finals to face VG where they lost first game of the series to a mean VG Storm Spirit- Drow Ranger duo.

Game two, however, went into CDEC’s favor against all odds. Facing a heavy push line up with Lycan, Beastmaster and QoP, the youngsters lost control of the game from the laning stage and had the mid lane barracks exposed fairly early. But despite their clear disadvantage, they managed to stay composed and played from behind until their Dragon Knight became relevant in team fights. The winning combo was Undying’s Decay into DK’s stun - right clicks and Radiance Burn from Naga Siren.

Forced to play a decisive game three, VG brought back a forgotten duo, Faceless Void - Skywrath Mage for the Chrono into Mystic Flare deadly combo and took the victory close to the 30 minute mark, just when CDEC’s Anti-Mage could have turned around the game with his finished Abyssal Blade.

Vici Gaming plus the winner of second open qualifiers round will join the eight invited teams to the Chinese regional qualifiers. Chinese Open Qualifiers #2 are scheduled to commence tomorrow, June 23rd while the regional qualifiers will kick off on June 25th.
