When fans of SEA Dota sat down last night to witness MVP.Phoenix and Fnatic, two of the strongest teams of the region, duke it out, they hoped for a tense series. Whilst game one gave them what they desired, MVP.Phoenix looked overwhelmed in the following two games. Fnatic closed out the series 3-0.

The teams came into the match on differing runs of form. MVP Phoenix had shown their ability at the Dota Pit LAN, where they emerged victorious. However, they have struggled in their games since then, going down to WG.Unity in the SEA/PH qualifiers for ESL One Manila. More importantly, they also lost 1-2 to Fnatic in the previous round of the Epicenter Moscow qualifiers.

Fnatic, on the other hand, have shown this month that they do not need Yee Fung 'Mushi' Chai to win games. Before the grand final of the Epicenter Moscow qualifiers, they had been undefeated in 18 series. Fnatic had been slaying all usurpers to their throne at the pinnacle of SEA Dota.

In the match itself, these two differing runs of form definitely showed. In game one, MVP were able to push Fnatic hard, taking down some of their barracks before Fnatic counter-pushed and won the game. Once Fnatic had tasted victory, they played with even more freedom. They dictated the pace of the rest of the series, and MVP did not touch Fnatic’s barracks for the rest of the series.

Fnatic is now on a 19-game winning streak, and have successfully qualified for Epicenter Moscow. They have shown that they are the dominant team in the SEA region. With the chaos of the roster shuffle now over, Fnatic will soon face sterner challenges. With their roster looking calm and decisive, they will be a team to watch out for in the lead-up to the Manila Major.
