Despite betting odds being stacked against them, three teams managed to pull an upset on the first day of the Dota Pit #4 LAN finals.
With the results of day one finalized, the Shanghai Major winners, Secret, Frankfurt Major winners, OG, and Virtus.Pro have all been eliminated from the Dota Pit LAN finals. Moving on, coL will be facing MVP.P and Na'Vi will be facing EG.
The day started with a series between coL and Virtus.Pro which contained two relatively long games. Game one had coL and VP fighting for map control in the early game, then with stronger team fight execution during clashes, coL was able to secure a slight lead and propel themselves to a victory. In game two, coL was able to secure nine kills by the ten minute mark after successful rotations by their Chen, Natures Prophet and Zeus, with a large lead, coL was able to close the game at the 60 minute mark after they made multiple team fight mistakes, allowing VP to nearly make a comeback.
As for the second and third series of the day, MVP.P vs OG was quite close, with OG trying - but failing - to handle the lethal fast-paced tempo of MVP.P and the Na'Vi vs Secret series gave way to Na'Vi's first success in a very long time.
The final series of the day was EG vs Empire, game one had both teams struggling to find an avenue for victory, pushing and pulling until EG lost a team fight at the 41 minute mark, giving up Rosh and Cheese. Using the Rosh advantage, Empire was able to finally gain a lead and win the game. Game two was the polar opposite of game one, with Saahil 'Universe' Arora's Broodmother completely dominating the game, ending the match with a KDA of 12/1/3. Game three was similar to game one, with both teams fighting for a lead, however, EG managed to secure and effective use an Aegis, granting them the lead needed to eliminate Empire from the Dota Pit LAN finals.
