The eighth Mineski pro gaming league has been announced with a new format for team invitation, the teams participating in the first leg of the tournament have also been announced.
Together with unveiling the seven directly invited teams to the first leg of the MGPL #8 and the seven teams in the first leg qualifiers, Mineski has unveiled the details of this season's MGPL, from invited team selection methods to the $7,800 base prize pool for the Dota2 league.
The format for leg one of the tournament can be split into three phases: qualifiers, group stage and play-offs. The qualifiers features seven different teams battling for the eighth spot in the group stage. In the group stages, the teams are split into two groups of four in which they will play best-of-twos to decide their placing in the best-of-three single elimination play-offs with a best-of-five finals - the winners of the group A and B are given a 1-0 advantage over their opponents.
The first leg of the tournament is scheduled for the March - June period, the second leg for the June - September period and the championship for the September - October period. The prize pool distribution for leg one and two is as follow:
Prize pool distribution:
1st - $1000
2nd - $429
Teams participating in qualifier:
Massive
Pacific Esports 1
Tric
Extremist
Pacific Esports 2
Xenim
Infuzed
Other than being a new round of Dota tournaments, the eighth season of the MGPL also brings about a few new things. The first is a change in the system used to invite teams, instead of relying on qualifiers to decide the invited teams, Mineski has decided to work with organizations that have met the "MET's [Mineski Event Team] criteria in proving their commitment to the esports cause." Also new is a roster lock system which is very similar to the Major roster lock system by Valve. Another addition is a LAN venue, the newly built MineskiTV studio "is set to host all matches of the MPGL8's main titles within its walls" and for each studio appearance, the team is given a compensation of $43.
