As the third day of I-League 3 comes to a close, Vici Gaming proved once again that they are the top dogs in the Asian scene as they narrowly defeated LGD 2-1 to book their spot for the grand finals.
Vici Gaming's win over LGD means they have guaranteed themselves a second place finish in the $425,000 tournament and at least a 20% cut of the prize pool. This also means Ning 'xiao8' Zhang and his crew will have to play in a best-of-three tomorrow against Team Malaysia who has eliminated three teams in the tournament so far, including two former The International champions Alliance and Newbee. The match would decide who would go up to face Vici Gaming in the grand final of I-League 3.
The day started with Team Malaysia against Alliance. After three long games, Team Malaysia came out on top off fantastic performance by Yee Fung 'Mushi' Chai's Shadow Fiend and Chong Xin 'Ohaiyo' Khoo's Beastmaster in the deciding game.
With Alliance knocked out of the tournament, it was Invictus Gaming and Newbee's turn to take the stage. Considering that this would be a knockout game, iG did not play their best as tonnes of miscommunication issues, especially between Hock Chuan 'ChuaN' Wong and Zhi Lei 'BurNing' Xu, were clearly visible. The second game on the other hand was no contest as Newbee had no trouble over-running iG with their Undying and Bristleback.
Newbee's victory over iG knocked iG out of the tournament. The win also set up a rematch between Team Malaysia and Newbee in which their last meeting in the winner bracket ended in 2-0 in favour of the Chinese. Coming into the game, Newbee disappointed their fans as they were outdrafted in both games and they were controlled for most of game one and game two. Team Malaysia utilized the aura strat and ended the game in 20 minutes with a score of 21-2. Newbee retaliated with their own aura strat in game two but only to be countered by Team Malaysia's Broodmother.
