First Season of Fantasy League introduced

Dota 2 has introduced the first season of Fantasy League, and it will cover all games from 19 May to 28 July. This fantasy league is more diverse compared to its earlier counterparts as it is not bound to a single-tournament.

The new Fantasy League follows the Dream League's format more than any other previous Dota 2 fantasy leagues. Its now made of multiple, smaller leagues, and it has the live draft feature. There are some distinct differences though, and the biggest change is that this league is not bound to a single tournament anymore.

The change gives the participants more diversity and flexibility regarding player choice, especially when you consider that there is no feature that allows trading of players. Players can participate in as many fantasy leagues that they can, and it can be done by using a fantasy league ticket to join or create a fantasy league through the game's Community tab.

The small-league format of the fantasy challenge suggests that there will be no prize for fantasy league winners aside from bragging rights. There is, however, small compendium point rewards for those joining a fantasy league and for participating in the draft.

There would be a second season shortly after the 19 May-28 July period of Season 1.

Despite this being dubbed as the first season, there had already been several other Dota 2 fantasy leagues before. Aside from Dream League's fantasy league and The International 3's Compendium Fantasy League, a league was also run by DotaAcademy dating back to the second The International.

Fantasy Dota takes a similar format with fantasy sports, wherein participants act as team owners - competing against each other using their hand-picked or drafted team of individuals. The medium of competition will be the accumulated statistics of their players on actual games.
