WPC-ACE League East just finished its second to the last groups-playweek, with Malaysian-team Orange playing ten games on their brief stay in Shanghai. The top six teams in the group standings after next week's games will join western teams Cloud9 and Alliance in the playoffs come late May.
Orange had the limelight this week as they played ten games within four days. Their schedule was compressed because they had to fly all the way to China for this LAN tournament. A similar schedule was followed by fellow Malaysian team Titan when they visited several weeks ago.
Orange's trip was not as successful as compared to Titan. They lost 0-2 in eight of their matches, but they were able to take a game off teams HGT, iG and LGD. Interestingly, those three teams are currently in the middle of the pack and have a fighting chance to advance into the playoffs.
VG, NewBee and DK secured their first, second and third position in the group stage as they all won their matches, all against Orange. There is not a single game in WPC-ACE League's schedule last week that did not involve that Malaysian team, meaning no other team played more than once.
Every best-of-two series won by a team in the group stage will net them 2 points, while a draw will net both teams one point each. Only the top six of the twelve teams will proceed to the LAN pre-playoffs, wherein they will be joined by the western teams Cloud 9 and Alliance. WPC-ACE's prize pool is just a few thousand shy off $250,000.
VG, NewBee, DK and Titan had already secured their slot in the pre-playoffs. The last two slots are still being contested, with iG currently positioned fifth and Chinese teams DT and CIS tied at sixth. LGD also has a big opportunity to advance despite being placed eight at the moment as they have three games remaining to play.
All of the remaining six games are scheduled this 17-18 May.
