Alliance demolish Speed Gaming to take second in WePlay Group A

In their re-match after the 2-0 win of Speed Gaming during the opening round of the WePlay second group stage, it was an entirely different Alliance that came out as they forced three quick and decisive wins, dispelling any doubt as to which of the two teams is currently the better of the two. Group B start tomorrow, October 18th, with the match between Evil Geniuses and Na`Vi, taking place from 18:00 CEST.

In the first game of the series, a great Skywrath Mage by Joakim 'Akke' Akterhall and the backing of Jerry 'EGM' Lundkvist playing the Treant Protector got Alliance off to a great start, winning them the lanes and giving them the space to take over, as Jonathan 'Loda' Berg on the Lifestealer put in a usual dominant performance. While some may point out the questionable decision of the Phantom Assassin opting not to go for an early Black King Bar, it's unlikely that it would have made much of a difference, as Alliance just looked in control all game long.

In a similar fashion the second game was all Alliance all the time, although the kill score did not reflect it as much this time around. Instead the game was all about the pushing power of Alliance, as they broke the base at mid early on, and then proceeded to siege up and split push, making the most of their Nature's Prophet. It might not have been pretty at times, but the results speak for themselves, as Speed Gaming had to concede defeat for a second time, only holding on marginally longer in this second game.

Sometimes, what looks like a slight glimmer of hope is nothing but a mirage, and certainly any hope feeling that they might be able to stall further in game 3 was quickly taken out of Speed Gaming fans, as Alliance upped their performance in either of the two previous games, even as that barely seemed possible. In the 20 minute stomp it took Speed Gaming 13 minutes to get a single kill on the board, while already being behind 1-9 in kills at that point. Ultimately the end score was a 20-5 in favour of the Swedes, as they eliminated Speed Gaming from the competition with style.
