Winter: 'I might still cast or I might still play'

INTERVIEW:
Malaysia Litt-Binn "Winter" Chan

Hello Winter, how was your new year and how have you been?

-"My New Year's Eve was all about G-League (laughs). I was so busy casting that I didn't do anything to celebrate the new year."

Wow that's unfortunate. Anyway back to the Dota questions. Now that The Asia has ended, will you continue to play for N9 or will you look for your opportunity elsewhere?

-"No, I am afraid my journey with N9 has ended. I was only suppose to assist them until The Asia. I haven't decided on a proper plan at the moment."

So you won't be returning to Orange and be a free agent instead? What was the reason you stopped playing for Orange in the first place?

-"I am still with Orange at the moment, just benched. My plans for 2013 are still unclear."

During an interview with Yamateh by Sgamer, Yamateh mentioned that he will not play with Mushi anymore. Are there some internal problems in the team?

-"I can't talk about issues like this. It's too sensitive and should be left for the team to deal with it, not the public."

Rumors have it that Mushi will be forming his own team, possibly in China, shortly. Do you have any hints for the readers on what this commotion is all about?

-"No, I am not too sure about it myself but I don't think China is somewhere he is heading to at the moment."

Orange placed 3rd in the tournament while Invasion-N9 failed to go through into the playoffs. Were you disappointed with Invasion-N9's performance in The Asia??

-"Not really. We had a very difficult group and we only did a one week boot camp before the event. Everyone tried their best, the only regret was not doing the Rubick pull when we were on radiant vs LGD.CN. Could have helped us a lot."

Speaking of the Rubick pull, do you reckon some of the top teams will experiment or use this in a real tournament? G-League perhaps?

-"There was one game in G-League where it was used. I can't remember if it's ForLove or Vici Gaming. It's just a last minute decision to help the lanes. It wasn't very effective. That strat is only good if you have no other options."

What do you think the team can do to improve themselves from now on?

-"Personal skills and decision making. They don't have someone to make calls in their team even back when they were Absolute Legends. Someone needs to take up the responsibility of doing that for them to improve."

Many know that the Australian team have problems training most of the time due to their latency to every servers. With Valve implementing the Australian servers today, do you think there will be more Australian team on the uprise?

-"Maybe, but it will still be hard. I don't see many teams wanting to use the AUS servers to scrim from the South East Asian region. Same goes with the Chinese teams."

You have recently started casting G-League with LD. How did he approach you to cast alongside him?

-"He didn't approach me. I talked to GoDz when he was staying over at my place during bootcamp. I asked him if I could try out and he said he could try to arrange something with LD."

Describe your feelings and emotions while you were casting for the first time.

-"Very nervous (laughs). It is because I don't know LD in person and never talked to him before. The first time we talked was the first game of G-League where we casted together. I was nervous because it all happened very fast. GoDz asked me if I wanted to cast G-League games just one day before the tournament."

What do you think is your strong point and your weak point when it comes to casting?

-"I think I am more observant than a lot of co-casters, and I somehow managed to work well with LD without much hassle. However, I don't have a good commentating voice to be a main caster. I might take up some vocal lessons to help me learn how to control my voice tone."

Is LD a good teacher? What did you learn while casting with him?

-"I learned how to be a good caster, an entertainer. I learned some of his 'cool' jokes."

Will you continue casting after G-League or possibly think of a shoutcasting career?

-"Not sure. As I said before, my plans are not clear for now. I might still cast or I might still play. I don't know what I am going to do. It all depends on what will happen next month."

Your mother has made several special appearances during the G-League stream. You responded with "I'm working mum!" (Laughs). How does your mum feel about your gaming career?

-"She is not too happy about it. She still prefer me to get a stable job and get married soon. Gaming is good for now though because I am able to make enough to support myself."

Do you talk to your parents or family often about the games and the tournaments you joined?

-"Not much. But my dad watches my team on stream when we play tournaments."

Does he understand the game?

-"No. He only knows who is killing who."

Is your girlfriend alright with New Years Eve celebration in front of the computer?
-"I brought her out to supper after casting (laughs)."

Dark horse, Vici Gaming surprised thousands as they started out uncoordinated and improved tremendously in just a matter of days. What do you think of them?
-"They are very talented individually. They just need more experience in LAN events and more time training, bonding and maturing as a team. If they work out well, probably the next IG."

In any case, now that it is down to four teams, who do you think will win G-League?
-"IG or LGD.int. IG is still my favourite."

What is your best memory and game of the G-League so far?
-"No doubt the Phantom Lancer armies (LGD.cn vs. DK game 2). Shadow Demon made illusions of Phantom Lancer and it nearly took out the whole team. Another one is LD's comment about Sylar buying Black King Bar every game, 'Sylar probably goes into the grocery store and buys a BKB' (laughs)."

Alright we wish you all the best in team hunting and streaming. Any last shout-outs?

-"I want to thank BeyondTheSummit, GoDz and LD for giving me the chance to this. Shout-out to Loda, my dragon brother."
