This month the ESL will start using an innovative tournament system in the King of the Hill style. It will be a 2on2 and a 5on5, and a Fun Cup will be available too.
The system the ESL aims for is not just a King of the Hill, it is a mix of between a Cup and a KotH. All will be explained here:
2on2 Cup
Every Wednesday around the middle of the month
It will be a cup similar to the 2on2OpeningCup the ESL had. All games will be played on the same day. There will be 32 to 64 teams taking part in that cup.
It will be played single elimination and the winner of this cup has the chance to become King of the Hill.
5on5 Cup
In the weekend at the end of every month
This cup will have similar rules to the 5on5 ladder of the ESL: it's also in single elimination mode and supports 32-64 participants. This cup has a fixed date (always the last weekend of the month) so this clash occurs with sign ups opening far in advance.
Like in the 2on2 Cup, the winners have the chance to become King of the Hill.
Fun Cup
At random times
This is a Cup with changing rules. It may be a 3on3 or a 5on5 Cup, sometimes even a 1on1. The rules will be changed constantly and you have the chance to vote to use previous rule sets for the next Cup.
Note: This Cup won't have a KotH event.
King of the Hill day
After the tournament month
On this day the current King of the Hill will have to play versus the winners of the 2on2 and 5on5 Cups. The winner of that match will be King of the Hill for one month and wins premium access for that month. These two matches (one for 2on2 and one for 5on5) will be played in best of 3 mode where the current KotH needs to win two bo3s and the challenger only one. In case the current KotH wins the Cup again, the runner-up will compete for the title of KotH, but the current KotH will only have to win one bo3.
Shoutcast and GGTV stream will regularily be available in English and German for at least the finals and the King of the Hill match.
