MeetYourMakers expands to DotA - Team JOY joins

[s]clan_news[/s]

After a succesful MYM Prime Defending tournament, Team JOY now join the ranks in the MeetYourMakers organization. A smart move, as the European DotA scene grows bigger and bigger.

DotA, DotA on the wall, are you the most popular map of them all? No doubt of it. A couple of weeks ago it was announced that CPL will host a Warcraft III: DotA BYOC Tournament with a prize value of $7,215. And the Defense of the Ancients league at the major league organization ESL is bigger than ever. The next upcoming offline event for DotA will be at DreamHack Winter 2006, hosted by GosuGamers.

Many of the multigaming organizations have, apart from a regular WarCraft 3 squad a DotA squad as well. The latest team to jump on the happy DotA train is MeetYourMakers. Being one of the top teams in the RTS scene with a solid squad in both Starcraft and WarCraft, they now pick up the second best DotA team in the world (according to » Cadred.org) formerly known as Team JOY. The team won the recent Prime Defending DotA tournament, and were also the winners of the first ESL DotA Premiership Series.

The team leader for the squad goes by the name of Jacob "Maelk" Toft-Andersen. He is certain that this is the next big thing in competitive eSports. Being one of the most succesful DotA teams in Europe, they are quite the favourites in the upcoming DreamHack tournament. GosuGamers caught up with Maelk for a short interview:

What do you think of your chances in the DreamHack tournament?
- I haven't heard of any known opponents showing up so I find our chances remarkably good :)
What was it that MYM offered that made you jump the bait?
- The name MYM itself would be enough for any DotA-team to accept, one of the most known and respected teams in the world offering to take in your team and sponsor them.
Will the team attend the CPL BYOC DotA event?
- If you mean the one in Dallas, no, we won't. The travelling-expenses combined with the lack of attendance of others teams makes us unable to go. I do, however, hope that the American clans will go and show CPL that we actually do care for professionalism and DotA as a part of e-sports.
Why is your team one of the best in the world? What is is that you have/can that others don't?
- We've got alot of experience all from playing for known good teams in the past. We've got alot of drive and dedication and then ofcourse: Skill
GosuGamers also talked to Mark Peter "Mercy" de Fries, the CEO of MeetYourMakers, for a comment on why they picked up the DotA team.
- We have been waiting for soem of the larger events to take it in, which happened over the past few months, Mercy says and mentions the growth of DotA in Korea, and of course the CPL and DreamHack. He also says it is probably only a matter of time before other do so too. However he does not believe it will the next big competitive RTS game.
- Being merely an addition to WC3 and SC, as we have to keep in mind it's a mod only, he says and points out that he see no reason not to expand since their roots are in the RTS game.
