Nicoodoz ties highest LAN map rating in CS history in OG's opening win of the Austin Major

Nicoodoz put forth the best map performance by any player during a Major in the history of Counter-Strike.

The BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025 kicked off with a bang on Tuesday (3 June) as OG's Nico “nicoodoz” Tamjidi tied the record for the highest map rating in a LAN tournament in the history of Counter-Strike (CS) to lead his team to a dominant victory over Complexity Gaming in the opening round of the Major's Stage 1.

OG entered their first match of the Austin Major's Swiss format Stage 1 as underdogs against home team Complexity, who were among the biggest favourites to sweep through the stage even with Paytyn “Junior” Johnson standing-in for Håkon “Hallzerk” Fjærli after the latter was forced to miss the tournament due to visa issues. While Complexity made the mistake of letting their opponents' best map, Ancient, through the map veto in hindsight, no one could have foreseen nicoodoz would put on one of the best performances in the history of the game to lead OG to victory.

Nicoodoz recorded an absurd 3.08 rating off of 33 frags and eight assists against just six deaths as OG routed Complexity 13-3, a feat made more impressive by the fact that it happened during a Major. In fact, this is the highest rating accomplished by any player in a single map during a Major in the history of CS.

Nicodooz's rating ties the record set by Georgi “WorldEdit” Yaskin, who had 37 frags against six deaths in 18 rounds, versus Echo Fox in ELEAGUE Season 1 in June 2016.

OG kicked off their opening map of the Austin Major on the CT side by winning the pistol round and the conversion, before Complexity answered with two of their own. Nicoodoz then sparked a run of seven consecutive round wins for OG, notably recording a 4K in defense of the B bomb site in round 10, to give his team a commanding 9-3 lead after the first half. Nicoodoz notably recorded 26 frags in the first half.

Despite Complexity's best efforts to mount a comeback in the second half, nicoodoz racked up seven more frags to lead a four-round run for OG to close out their historic victory in Ancient. The CS community were quick to laud the performance, with Valve itself acknowledging nicoodoz's feat with a post on the official CS2 X (formerly Twitter) account.

Despite OG's fiery start in the first round of Stage 1, they suffered a 9-13 loss to B8 in Inferno in the second round not long after. Nicoodoz once again led the team in rating despite the loss with 19 frags and eight assists on 14 deaths.

With a 1-1 standing so far in Stage 1 of the Austin Major, OG need to score two more wins in the next three rounds to advance to Stage 2 of the tournament. The team will next play in the Stage 1 Round 3 Mid Matches against another team with a 1-1 record.

The BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025 is the first CS2 Major Championship of the year. From 3 to 6 June, 32 of the best CS2 teams in the world will gather in Austin, Texas to fight across four grueling stages of competition to claim the third CS2 Major title and the lion's share of the tournament's US$1.25 million prize pool.
