Astralis secure first place at ECS Season 2 Finals

Astralis have overcome OpTic Gaming in the Grand final of ECS Season 2, securing the victory in two maps out of three.

The Danes have finally broken through their finals barrier having defeated the very same team that prevented them from grabbing the ELEAGUE Season 2 Champions' title, OpTic Gaming. The series saw a swift conclusion as the Danes made quick work of the North American team, only on a single occasion did the team secure double digits in terms of rounds. For a brief recap of the matches, see below.

ECS Season 2 - Grand final
Denmark Astralis vs. Canada OpTic Gaming
Winner: Denmark Astralis
Maps: de_Overpass -
14:1, 2:5 (16:6); de_Train - 9:6, 7:5 (16:11)
MVP: Denmark Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen

Astralis demonstrated a truly spectacular performance in this best of three series, culminating in the team securing their first large title over the course of its existence.

The Danes kicked off on the CT side of de_Overpass, where the team seemed unstoppable. Only on a single occasion did they forfeit a round to OpTic Gaming throughout the first half, leading to a colossal surplus going into the second half of the map. The team transitions onto the T side of the map with a whopping 14:1 lead. OpTic Gaming showed a bit of a struggle, attempting to mount a comeback, however it was simply too far gone in favour of the Danes, leading to a 16:6 finish for Astralis.

Next up was de_Train, where we saw a closer score line upon conclusion, however consistent with the previous outcome, it would be the Danes on top. Astralis once again commence on the CT side of the map, where they successfully amass a lead over their opponent. On this occasion it was not quite as commending, yet still it was a 9:6 lead. Having transferred onto the T side their performance was not hindered in any sense, allowing for a continuation of their dominance. At large thanks to their good performance on the prior half, the team was able to secure seven rounds to OpTic's five, closing out not only the map, but also the series and consequently the tournament, as Astralis are crowned Champions of ECS Season 2.
