Virtus.pro secure first place at DreamHack Bucharest 2016

Virtus.pro were able to overpower Cloud9 in the Grand Final of DreamHack Bucharest 2016, taking away first place, on top of $50,000 in prize money.

DreamHack Bucharest 2016 took place over the weekend, where we saw some amazing matches, concluded by a grand final between Virtus.pro and Cloud9. Both teams looked strong throughout the tournament, however in a competition the victor is sole. The maps were de_Train and de_Cobblestone, where the Poles managed to win in two consecutive maps with identical 16:9 scores. See below for a brief outline of the matches.

DreamHack Bucharest 2016 - Grand Final

Poland Virtus.Pro vs. United States Cloud9 - 2:0
Maps: de_Train, de_Cobblestone - 12:3, 4:6 (16:9); 6:9, 10:0 (16:9)

MVP: Poland Filip "NEO" Kubski

Virtus.pro demonstrated a stellar performance across both maps, reinstating the team’s capabilities and destroying the taboo around older professional CS:GO players. Not only did the veteran Polish roster win, they managed to do it in quick succession, with only two maps of three played and a total of fifty rounds, instead of potentially over ninety.

The first map was de_Train, perhaps one of the most comfortable maps for the Poles. The team was composed throughout the first half, where they managed to accumulate a crucial lead on the CT side. Cloud9 were simply not able to pass through the defences of Virtus.pro, landing them in hot water with a 3:12 deficit, slanted towards the Poles. Switching over to the T side saw the Poles temporarily give up their dominance, as Cloud9 were able to land a few rounds of their own. Unfortunately for the Americans, Virtus.pro did not budge and went on to secure the first map 16:9.

The second and final map of the Grand final series was de_Cobblestone. Contrary to de_Train, Virtus.pro seemed shaky after starting on the CT side of the map. Cloud9 were able to storm the bomb sites, securing a total of nine rounds to V.p’s six. In the second half the only team that was shook was Cloud9, as the Poles absolutely decimated them in a ten consecutive round frenzy, eliminating any dreams of a third map of first place title. Virtus.pro take away the tournament 16:9 on Cobblestone.
