ESL to host ESL One Cologne 2014 with $250,000 prize pool

ESL have announced their second $250,000 CS:GO event this year. ESL One Cologne 2014 will host the best teams across the globe and will be held August 14th-17th in Cologne (Gamescom), Germany.

Following their great success earlier this year at Katowice, ESL have decided to host yet another tournament where the best teams across the globe will compete for a $250,000 prize pool.

“After our thrilling event in Katowice, we are excited to once again host a tournament with a community funded prize pool. eSports is a great place to be right now and with the community growing as it is, we're happy to be given the opportunity to showcase the best in competitive gaming once again. The biggest gaming event in the world is the perfect place to host the best CS:GO teams from all over the globe and all of us here at ESL are looking very much forward to what gamescom has to offer.” - said Alexander Nehr, Product Manager at ESL

The format of the tournament has not been released yet, but ESL have already invited the top eight teams from Katowice, while the other eight will have to earn their spots through the qualifiers.

Qualifier slots will be distributed in the following manner:

  • European qualifier - 6 slots,
  • North American qualifier - 1 slot,
  • Oceania/Australia - 1 slot.

2. $50,000
3-4. $22,000
5-8. $10,000
9-16. $2,000
