Questions raised over Synergy League's legitimacy

Almost 3 months after the postponed LAN finals were due to take place, Cyborgmatt and Basically Unknown's manager Panda<3 have taken to social media to bring up concerns over travel arrangements not being reimbursed and that the postponed LAN finals may never take place.

It seems like a long time since the announcement that the Russian based finals of Synergy League were postponed until 2015. The tournament had already been plagued with problems with Newbee, Team Malaysia, ASUS.Polar, afterShock, Moscow Five and HellRaisers all refusing to travel to Russia. With replacements ready to go and tickets booked, Synergy League's community manager Oleg 'dreamknoxville' Skobelev revealed via text message that unexpected costs for holding the tournament in the planned location of Zorya Stadium forced the organizers to delaying the tournament.

Word has come from a Reddit post from the manager of Basically Unknown and Aftershock Gaming that some of the teams had not received their promised flight refunds and that the teams who did were forced to go huge amounts of effort with "over 100 emails and phone calls". Gustav 'Panda<3' Hansson went on to explain that one of the administrators had not heard from the main organizer for 3 weeks. A later exchange revealed that he had been in contact and replied with the following: "He's saying that due to economy troubles synergy lost their sponsor but also he is currently working on partnership (near finish) with some huge sponsor, All I know is that they are planning on hosting a LAN but still I think that the league is yet to be hosted".

Meanwhile, updates from Matthew 'Cyborgmatt' Bailey on Twitter revealed that the Synergy League website was down and pointed to the domain having the owner's information hidden from the public and going as far as questioning whether the organizers had ran away with the money. While the website is down, the tournaments profile on VK remains intact, with the last update from mid-January preparing an interview with the organizers. But since November there has been no notification that the LAN event will push forward with a new location. Meanwhile the Dota TV ticket is still available on the store, despite there not being a scheduled LAN finals. Also to note is that $8,524 was added to the tournament prize pool by the public from ticket purchases.
