Shanghai Major preview: OG

OG, previosuly known as (monkey)business, is one of the top contenders attending the Shanghai Major. When you hear the name OG, you immediately think of Miracle, the guy with the 8k MMR. Although he is not the only player to have such a high matchmaking point tally; w33 from Team Secret is also known to be at that matchmaking point level - Miracle is probably the most recognizable in the scene. But what made this team so popular was their rather amazing run at the Frankfurt Major where they won the top spot and proved to the world that they are not to be messed with. Being knocked down to the lower bracket is depressing for any team and it brings down the morale of the squad. However, it is a different story for OG as they fought back with great intensity and they eliminated all the teams that came their way to reach their destination. Finally, they managed to take the win from Team Secret in the Grand Finals and be the first team to ever win a Dota 2 Major.

OG Roster:

Jordan Amer 'Miracle-' Barqawi
Denmark Johan 'N0tail' Sundstein
Canada David 'MoonMeander' Tan
Denmark Andreas 'Cr1t-' Franck Nielsen
Israel Tal 'Fly' Aizik

OG is a team that likes switching things up in their laning phase. Sometimes, Miracle takes the carry role and gives N0tail the position two, a style that is comparable to Evil Geniuses - where they switch roles between Arteezy and Sumail. They are also a strategic team, displaying strats that are considered fragile as one little mistake or incorrect execution can cost them the game. Draft-wise, they are one of most confusing teams to draft against. Having two very flexible and versatile players swapping heroes, teams can never predict which player will be playing which role. This in turn becomes an advantage for OG as the enemy can't really ban the heroes they want to and banning cerrtain heroes against the wrong player can give out information about their own draft. Miracle has signature heroes like Shadow Fiend and Invoker and these are usually off the table simply because teams do not want to leave him to have his way but that does not mean he is out of the game. There is still the possibility of a Miracle Anti-Mage which is a hero he utilises very well because of his farming and play-making capabilities. There is also the possibility of a surprise Meepo pick for N0tail which he is widely known to play very well. A hero that should not be taken out of the equation is Gyrocopter, a pick that is very favourable for them since both Miracle and N0tail play it extremely well and it gives other teams a tough time in their drafting since they do not know who will be given the hero. Do they ban Miracle's heroes or N0tail's? This often causes a huge problem and it disrupts the drafting process of the opposing team.

OG's playstyle usually revolves around Miracle and the team's capability to win teamfights - alongside this is N0tail's ability to carry in the late game, a playstyle similar to LGD. Having arguably one of the best aggressive supports out there paired up with Fly - the support duo's task is to secure the early game for the team and to make sure they win the lanes. They excel at letting Miracle safely farm and helping him to snowball to the point that he sometimes outfarms N0tail, which provides them with two carries for the game. OG rarely makes mistake as Fly's leadership allows them to take objectives and leaves little room for error.

Statistics from datdota

OG's current form looks solid and their recent win ratios show this - having a very high percentage win raio on the most popular heroes of the current patch. It goes without saying that each player on this team possesses a huge amount of skill and they synergise extremely well together. They excel in execution of strategies and handling the pressure of all games - a visible factor during their recent games and definitely at The Frankfurt Major.

With the Shanghai Major fast approaching, OG has to be stronger than ever and keep their playstyle and strats on point - they have to prove that their win at the Fraunkfurt Major was not a bedtime story.
