Teams Struggling for Survival

For the teams on the bottom half of the table, the two last playdays are of utter importance for their future in the WarCraft III Champions League. The bottom team hoorai.XQ, with only 9 points in total, will be playing an extremely desisive game against Serious Gaming on Sunday. Nothing but a clear win will keep them away from facing a long and cold qualifer in order to re-enter the best WarCraft III league, the WC3L.

Alternate aTTaX and Team fnatic aiming for playoffs

The two top teams of the lower half still seem to have a decent shot at reaching the playoffs. The next playday will be absolutely crucial for aTTaX's and fnatic's chances to emerge to the upper half. The former team will not be facing Wicked until Sunday whereas fnatic, formely known as We Are Go with the additions of FoCuS and Shy from MYM, will try to tackle MYM on Thursday. With the two additions to the squad, fnatic looks very sharp indeed and it will be interesting to see if the former MYM players can bring their old teammates to their knees.

ALTERNATE aTTaX is two points ahead of fnatic and, although they have a tough schedule, could climb up among the top 6 teams if they somehow manage to beat Wicked, from whom a point will be withdrawn at the end of the season, 5-0 on Sunday. Not only have the stars, XlorD and DeMusliM, managed to take points for aTTaX, but also the talented Germans yAwS and dArk has shown that they cut it in the finest of leagues. If the two teams, aTTaX and fnatic, manage to put some extra powder in their guns before the next upcoming playday, the playoff spots would become wide open, seeing as both MYM and Wicked are just above the top 6 line along with MouseSports.

A word with DeMusliM - Human player in aTTax

demuslim.jpgThe German-based side ALTERNATE aTTaX has done unexpectedly well so far this season, beating We Are Go (now fnatic) 4 to 1 in playday 7 for instance, but got two difficult matches left against Wicked and World Elite. However, they are in quite a good position to overtake one of the top 6 teams which would grant them a place in the playoffs. GosuGamers caught up with aTTaX's Benjamin "DeMusliM" Baker for a brief chat about the final matches of the 13th WC3L season.

Q: Are you still hopeful that your team, aTTaX, will make it to the online playoffs? What will it take for you to do so?

A: Well, as I've said in previous interviews, this is our first season in the WC3L and my main aim is to be in a position where we don't have to requalify. If we came top 6 it would be even cooler!, says Ben and smiles before continuing. Since Wicked got a pretty nice result versus SK, it's going to be pretty hard for us to do so though - get in a position to qualify for the finals etc.

Q: You're up against Wicked next. Have you prepared in any special way for this highly important match?

A: We know we need to come out with something like a 5-0 versus Wicked, so in general we're just taking it as it comes like we have done the whole season, and hoping we can perform some magic.

Fnatic manager Spittie hopeful

We do actually have a slim chance...
- fnatic.Spittie
After closing the WarCraft III section last year, fnatic has now decided to re-open it and has recruited the entire Clan Go (also known as We Are Go) squad along with the two former Go players FoCuS and Shy from MYM. There's no doubt about that they've got a very strong team on their hands, but the question is if it's not a little too late to have a chance at the playoffs this season already. When asked about fnatic's chances of making it to the playoffs, with only two playdays left, the team's charismatic organiser Patrick "Spittie" Bordier is hopeful.

- We do actually have a slim chance I believe, since we got a 4:1 against srs and the teams just above us have penalty points to be considered and we do not. Assuming we get very strong results in the last matches we could make it. This is naturally what we are aiming and hoping for, Spittie says.

As mentioned, fnatic will be facing the likes of Grubby and Moon in their next match and will most likely need to win to keep their playoff-dreams vivid. Spittie seemed rather confident that his team would be up to this difficult task. GosuGamers asked him what it would take for his team to overcome this dreadful opponent.

- What will it take to beat MYM Dreamteam? Well... We absolutely cannot rely on luck, we need to not be Shy and our players need to FoCuS on the war and the opponents. I believe that the fnatic players are good enough to beat MYM, and remember, Space is bigger than the Moon, O'Kei?, Spittie continues while chuckling.

hoorai.XQ and Serious Gaming struggling at the bottom
hoorai__diesel_DNA_Naniwa.jpg
DieSel, DNA, Naniwa from hoorai - this season's punchbags.
On Sunday, a game of immense importance will take place between the two bottom teams hoorai and Serious. The latter team is three heavy points ahead of hoorai, who impressively, though, managed to steal a couple of points from MYM in their previous WC3L game with DNA managing to beat Moon himself. Regardless, Serious has a golden opportunity to extend that three-point gap and push up through the table. Hoorai, on the other hand, are in dire need of a win. The team hasn't won a single match in the WC3L this season and, being stuck at a bottom, only an overwhelming win will keep their hopes for reaching the playdowns alive. Their Undead duo elfittaja and Naniwa better get their game-faces on. An indication of the outcome was, perhaps, brought to us last Monday when Serious defeated hoorai, 4 to 1, in the WPL.

Probably the most important yet.
- srs.SonKiE on his team's match against hoorai.XQ.
Serious' American Nikolaus "SonKiE" Cassidy, who's been very important for his team this season, tells us that this is probably his most important match this season. Srs is a good team, but we seem to have kinks to work out. Sometimes one of us can have a bad day and lose some matches, but this cannot be the cast versus hoorai. We are all motivated and in crush mode, says Cassidy while also stating the importance of not just winning, but winning big. It's a MUST that we 4-1 or 5-0 them in order to score some serious points. It's looking promising at the moment since we just 4-1'd them in WPL last Monday.

The Polish-based team PGS is only two points ahead of Serious and has two difficult games ahead of them against the Chinese stars of World Elite and the Korean-dominated squad of Wicked. If Serious manages to grab some points, things might just become very dangerous for PGS's Night Elf star LiiLD.C and his teammates. Finally, there's mTw in 9th place. The classic team looked very promising at the start of the season, adding Satiini and Rainbow to their roster. However, the recruits didn't seem to pay off for mTw, or at least not as well as was expected since the team will now, almost undoubtly, find themselves in the playdowns. They've got alot of potential and it would be a great shame if they were not present in the next season.

mTw|rukie dissappointed, but not worried

After playing impressively well in some matches last season, mTw fell to 8th place in the last playdays. After losing to Defining Stars (now known as Wicked) in the playdowns they were forced to go through the qualification stage before entering the league again. To bolster their forces, the team added two highly respected players - the Night Elf Satiini and the Human Rainbow - to their roster.
I still have faith in my players.
- mTw|rukie.
Although losing to aTTax in the second qualification round, mTw showed their skill by taking out both Gravitas and then wNv to secure themselves a place in Season XIII.

With such a strong lineup, much was expected of the Mortals, but, as mentioned above, things didn't go as planned and the recruits did not manage to live up to the expectations. When asked about the season, so far, mTw manager Christopher "rukie" Pawlowski had the following to say:
- Of course we are disappointed. We planned to be on the upper half as well. But obviously our recruitments for this season didnt improve the line up like we thought. It happens from time to time that players are in a slump. I mean, the season before they both showed impressive results and then couldn't repeat it, but I think we will be prepared for next season and especially Rainbow is on the right way out of his bad phase. He will be strong again soon, I am almost sure of it.

Despite of the disappointing season, Christopher feels confident that his team will make it through and give it another shot next season.
- Even though it was a difficult season for us, I still have faith in my players and think that we will come out on top of this, he says.

LiiLD.C - the hope of PGS

liildc_in_4k_shirt.jpgAlthough PGS is placed third from the bottom, the team has at least taken points in all of their clanwars except for the one against SK Gaming. Facing World Elite and Wicked in the ending playdays, it could be difficult for them to collect many more of them. Since they're only two points in front of Serious, every point they can get is worth it's weight in gold.

Their Night Elf star Daniel "LiiLD.C" Claesson, who was recruited after the closure of 4Kings, has single-handedly scored 5 of the teams 14 points this season, taking down the likes of mouz.Happy and BeT.Myth. Also, he collected another 3 points by forming a solid 2vs2 team with the German Orc player Eric. It seems apparent that some weight was lifted from his shoulders by leaving 4Kings for PGS.

LiiLD.C's teammate Sebastian "FuRy" Pesic tells GosuGamers that they'll need some very important points in the upcoming wars. He continues to tell us a little about the ex-4K players time in PGS so far and his hopes for next season.

Q: What do you think of your and your ex-4K teammates performances in PGS? Do you feel some pressure's been lifted from your shoulders?

A: Not really, there is alot of pressure to perform in PGS. LiiL has been playing really well so far, Zeus is also improving. I hope with the addition of Satiini and some luck we will stay in WC3L for the next season where we will be a dangerous opponent, says FuRy and adds a smile.
