Meanwhile, BLG, Team Liquid, MIBR and Team Heretics are eliminated from the tournament.
It’s been an action-packed five days at the Swiss Stage of VALORANT Masters Toronto, with eight teams battling for a coveted spot in the Playoffs. In the end, it was Gen.G Esports,
Sentinels,
Paper Rex, and
Wolves Esports who emerged victorious.
Here’s a quick recap of how each team made it through.
Gen.G dominate the Swiss Stage 2-0
South Korean team and VCT Pacific second seed Gen.G came out swinging and easily qualified for the Playoffs. They first defeated VCT Americas third seed MIBR 2-0 in their opening match, with a dominant 13-5 on Sunset and a one-sided 13-1 on Haven. Then, they defeated fellow VCT Pacific team Paper Rex in another 2-0 sweep, with a hard-earned 13-11 win on Ascent, followed by a dominant 13-3 on Icebox to qualify for the Playoffs.
Gen.G will face EMEA’s first seed Fnatic in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals on 13 June, 12:00 PDT / 14 June, 03:00 SGT.
Sentinels surge through the Swiss Stage 2-0
VCT Americas second seed Sentinels also blazed through the competition in the Swiss Stage, where they swept Wolves Esports 2-0 with a hard-fought 13-11 on Split, and an equally contested match on Lotus that went in their favour 13-8.
Afterwards, Sentinels defeated another Chinese team, Bilibili Gaming, where they dropped the first game on Icebox 9-13, but quickly bounced back on Sunset 13-9. The decider match was a nail-biter, where Sentinels powered through 13-9 to claim their second win in the Swiss Stage and qualify for the Playoffs.
Sentinels will face yet another Chinese team, VCT China’s first seed, XLG Esports, in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals on 13 June, 08:00 PDT / 14 June, 00:00 SGT.
Paper Rex fight on with a 2-1 standing
Singaporean team and VCT Pacific third seed Paper Rex also had a fairly good run in the Swiss Stage. They quickly took down Team Heretics in a 2-0 upset in their opening match, commanding Pearl 13-1 before outplaying their opponents 13-9 on Icebox.
However, they dropped their second match against Gen.G, where they were defeated on Ascent 11-13 and 3-13 on Icebox.
Paper Rex had to fight tooth and nail for a Playoffs spot in their third match-up, losing Split to Team Liquid in a match that went to overtime, eventually going TL’s way 13-15. Paper Rex, however, bounced back on Sunset where they crushed their opponents 13-5. The decider match was another thriller, with Paper Rex making swift work of TL in the first half 11-1, but losing their grip in the second half as TL caught up with 11 straight rounds, sending both teams to overtime. In the end, however, it was Paper Rex who managed to close out the match 14-12 to defeat TL and qualify for the Playoffs.
They will go up against VCT Americas first seed G2 Esports in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals on 14 June, 09:00 PDT / 15 June, 00:00 SGT.
Wolves Esports claw through the Swiss Stage 2-1
Wolves Esports had a rough start, losing to Sentinels in a 0-2 sweep in their opening match, with an 11-13 on Split and an 8-13 on Lotus.
However, this didn’t deter the Chinese team from moving forward. They defeated Team Heretics 2-0, outwitting their opponents 13-10 on Pearl and standing their ground to win 13-9 on Lotus and secure the series. They then swept fellow Chinese team BLG 2-0, breezing through Ascent 13-5 but having to fight hard on Split 13-10 to secure a spot in the Playoffs.
Wolves Esports will go up against VCT Pacific’s top seed Rex Regum Qeon (RRQ) in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals on 13 June at 08:00 PDT / 14 June at 00:00 SGT.
