Competitive Overwatch Weekend Recap - 5/6 March

Overwatch Robert “hexagrams” Kirkbride

The Overwatch competitive scene kicked off on Friday with a King of the Hill showmatch, and continued all weekend with two European tournaments and the GosuGamers NA Weekly finishing up on Sunday.

A mere four Overwatch tournaments were held this weekend, and featured mostly play from the European region.  As the competitive scene continues to evolve and rosters continue to remain in flux, check out our tournament pages and VODs below to capture a small glimpse of what the scene looks like for now.

IDDQD faced off against Melty in a battle of top EU Region teams.  IDDQD has been dominating the scene as of late, seemingly winning everything they enter.  However, Melty was one of the best teams in the first phase of Overwatch beta, and looked for the opportunity to reestablish their dominance.

GosuGamers EU Weekly #6 (Saturday March 5th 18:00 CET)

VODs

North American team Mix^ entered the European fray with the goal of reminding everyone that they are still a top team in Overwatch.  IDDQD looked to extend their tournament winning streak in a field loaded with emerging talent from across the EU region.  Melty, Arcane, #FlatEarth and SG-1 all looked to topple the favorites in the 6th edition of our GosuGamers EU weekly.

Overwatch 6on6 Community Cup #3 Europe

VODs

The ESL organized tournament drew nine teams to the non-streamed event, and true to form, REUNITED.GG was one of those teams. Rising team Arcane is following in REUNITED.GG's footsteps by playing in absolutely every tournament.  As the field thinned out, Arcane and REUNITED.GG met in the finals in what very well may be a preview of a match-up we will see often in the future.

GosuGamers NA Weekly #6 (Sunday March 6, 21:00 CET)

VODs

North American upstarts Vigil and Prime had tough draws in the round of eight against REUNITED.GG and GoogleMe, respectively, and Melty surprised everyone by dropping yet another set early in a tournament.  GoogleMe looked to maintain their position at the top of the North American scene, but Mix^ and REUNITED.GG had designs on winning the lion's share of the $1000+ prizepool.
