Overwatch closed beta to go live October 27th

We finally know the day that the closed beta for Overwatch will kick off. Remember the date: October 27th.

In what must be the most down-low announcement for one of the most anticipated events in gaming culture, Blizzard has finally announced the date that they will open up the beta servers to the lucky few who will be able to get early beta keys.

There were some minor hints of Blizzard being at the point where they felt confident in the current state of the game, with them inviting a bunch of scene personalities to the Blizzard Headquarters for some Overwatch gaming time. But with Blizzcon being just weeks away, that event seemed like the most appropriate timing to announce the start of the closed beta. Luckily, they decided to send out this little tweet today instead:

With this announcement, we now know the moment that the first 'regular folk' will be able to start playing Overwatch from their home. Starting with the Americas Region, Blizzard will be sending out beta keys to a limited number of players. Now, with closed betas like this, scene influencers like YouTubers and Twitch streamers usually get a bit higher priority when handing out beta keys. So it might take a little while longer for the most of you to get your own beta key, but at least we now know that the process has started.

In the meanwhile, Overwatch is likely to start topping the charts on viewership on sites like Twitch and YouTube, and the first moment that will happen is tomorrow.
