Should you pull Phoenix, Severian, Velina, or Norma in Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.3?

With four powerful agents on the banners, which ones are worth your Polychromes? Here's how to decide based on your roster.

The days are truly fast and once again, a new update for Zenless Zone Zero is coming this week! Version 3.3 will bring Phoenix and Severian as playable S-Rank agents to the game, with Velina and Norma returning for a banner rerun.

The combination of these agent banners may feel a bit overwhelming, especially since all four characters have something really interesting to offer to player team compositions. On top of that, there will be some intriguing agents arriving in the coming versions too, so how will you manage your sweet sweet Polychrome budget?

Well, we've got you covered. Whether you're a min-maxing monster of a meta-chaser, a newbie just starting out with ZZZ, or a collector of waifus and husbandos, we'll give you tips on which agents are the best pulls for this version, depending on your needs.

Should you pull Phoenix in Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.3?

The first new S-Rank agent on the list is Phoenix, who will feature in the first half of Version 3.3.

Phoenix is a Fire Anomaly agent who specialises in dealing massive Anomaly damage through critical hits. Unlike Jane Doe, whose critical Anomaly mechanic is limited to Assault, Phoenix can enable critical hits across different Attribute Anomalies, allowing her to amplify damage from multiple sources.

Phoenix arrives during the first-half banner of ZZZ version 3.3.

Phoenix also has a unique resurrection mechanic that sets her apart from other agents. Even if she takes a fatal blow, she can revive and return to combat, giving her an additional layer of survivability alongside her offensive capabilities. Her gameplay showcased during the Version 3.3 Special Program also highlights her Combustion attacks and powerful weapon-throwing attacks.

Her strongest potential team consists of Phoenix, Remielle, and Velina. Phoenix's ability to enable Anomaly critical hits complements Velina's Vortex mechanics and Remielle's Anomaly buffs, allowing all three agents to contribute substantial damage. Alternative compositions featuring Vivian or Ukinami Yuzuha are also possible, although Phoenix appears to benefit considerably more from having both Remielle and Velina on her team.

However, Phoenix is not necessarily an essential addition for players who already have a strong Remielle and Velina team. Existing alternatives such as Aria and Promeia already perform exceptionally well alongside the duo. While Phoenix could provide additional damage, the improvement may not be substantial enough to justify another limited S-Rank pull for players already comfortably clearing Shiyu Defense and Deadly Assault.

Phoenix's reliance on specific teammates is also worth considering. Without Remielle and Velina, she may lose a significant portion of her damage potential, making her less flexible than other Anomaly agents. Players should therefore consider their existing roster before investing in her banner.

Pull if:

  • You own Remielle and Velina and want to maximise your Anomaly team's damage.
  • You need a powerful Fire Anomaly DPS and have suitable teammates to support her.
  • You enjoy Anomaly-focused combat, particularly triggering critical Anomaly damage, unleashing powerful attacks, and taking advantage of her resurrection mechanic.

Skip if:

  • You already have well-invested Aria or Promeia teams alongside Remielle and Velina, and are satisfied with their performance.
  • You lack Velina or Remielle, making it difficult to take full advantage of Phoenix's kit.

Should you pull Severian in Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.3?

Severian is a new S-Rank Wind Attack agent who specialises in fast-paced combat, automatic dodges, and powerful counterattacks. His fighting style revolves around evading incoming attacks and maintaining offensive pressure, allowing him to take advantage of openings while continuing to deal damage.

Severian arrives during the second-half banner of ZZZ version 3.3.

As shown during the Version 3.3 Special Program, Severian can automatically evade incoming attacks and retaliate with counterattacks. He can also build up resources through combat and consume them to unleash powerful attacks, giving players additional ways to maintain offensive pressure.

His combat mechanics reward players who can effectively combine manual dodges, counterattacks, and aggressive attacks. This makes Severian particularly suited to players who enjoy an active, reaction-based playstyle rather than simply waiting for an enemy to enter a Stun window before unleashing their strongest attacks.

Severian benefits from Stun agents who don't take too much field time away from him. Norma is one of his strongest potential partners, as her Bangboo turrets can accumulate Daze off-field while her additional Chain Attacks provide more opportunities for Severian to deal damage. A team featuring Severian, Norma, and Sunna or Astra Yao could therefore provide an excellent balance of damage, Stun, and offensive buffs.

Dialyn is another strong option thanks to her ability to create frequent Stun opportunities and provide additional Ultimate-related benefits. Meanwhile, Roxy offers another potential Stun option, particularly for players looking to build a Wind-focused team. Players can also consider alternatives such as Trigger or Ju Fufu for off-field Stun support, depending on their available roster.

This flexibility makes Severian particularly valuable for players who already own compatible Stun and Support agents. He also provides dedicated Wind damage coverage, which could be especially useful in Shiyu Defense and Deadly Assault against enemies with Wind weaknesses.

For newer or returning players without a powerful main damage dealer, Severian could also become the centrepiece of a competitive Attack team. However, his usefulness is not limited to accounts lacking premium DPS characters. Even established players may benefit from having another strong damage dealer who can handle different elemental matchups and take advantage of their existing roster.

Pull if:

  • You need a powerful main DPS or lack dedicated Wind damage coverage for Shiyu Defense and Deadly Assault.
  • You have compatible teammates such as Norma, Dialyn, Roxy, Sunna, or Astra Yao to build a strong team around him.
  • You enjoy fast-paced, dodge-focused combat that rewards timing, counterattacks, and maintaining offensive pressure.

Skip if:

  • You already have several well-invested damage dealers with sufficient elemental coverage, and are satisfied with your current teams.
  • You prefer more straightforward combat mechanics, rather than a playstyle that rewards active dodging and carefully-timed attacks.

Should you pull Velina in Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.3?

Velina returns in Version 3.3 as an S-Rank Wind Anomaly agent who has become one of the most influential characters in the game's Anomaly meta. Her kit revolves around summoning Cyclones that deal damage, apply Wind Anomaly Buildup, and enable Vortex, a powerful reaction that allows Anomaly characters to deal additional damage. Unlike conventional Anomaly damage dealers, Velina can contribute much of her damage and utility off-field, allowing her teammates to take advantage of her abilities without interrupting their rotations.

Velina arrives during the first-half banner of ZZZ version 3.3.

Her Cyclones also provide several benefits beyond damage. They can increase Vortex damage, while Chromatic Tint reduces enemies' Anomaly Buildup Resistance for Wind and the attribute that triggered the effect. Her abilities also help increase Anomaly Buildup and Daze, allowing teammates to trigger their respective effects more consistently.

Velina is particularly effective alongside Remielle, with Phoenix, Aria, and Promeia serving as potential third members. However, her usefulness extends beyond Version 3 characters. Older Anomaly agents such as Jane Doe, Burnice, and Grace can also benefit from her Vortex mechanics, giving players more opportunities to use characters they already own. Even lower-investment teams featuring Piper and Nicole can take advantage of her abilities.

Her versatility makes Velina one of the highest-value pulls in Version 3.3 for players who do not already own her. Rather than supporting only one particular damage dealer, she can strengthen a wide range of Anomaly teams while potentially benefiting from the arrival of future Anomaly agents. She can also perform effectively without her signature W-Engine, with alternatives such as Weeping Gemini and Fusion Compiler available.

However, Velina is not equally effective in every Anomaly composition. Characters such as Miyabi, whose gameplay depends heavily on Disorder interactions, may not benefit from her Vortex-focused mechanics as much as other agents. Players who primarily invest in conventional Attack or Rupture teams may also have less immediate need for her.

Pull if:

  • You do not already own Velina and regularly use Anomaly teams, as she offers exceptionally high value across multiple compositions.
  • You have Remielle, Aria, Promeia, or older Anomaly agents who could benefit from her Vortex mechanics.
  • You want a flexible Anomaly agent who can strengthen your existing teams and potentially support future damage dealers.

Skip if:

  • You already own Velina, and are satisfied with her current investment.
  • You primarily use Attack or Rupture teams and have no plans to build an Anomaly-focused composition.

Should you pull Norma in Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.3?

Norma returns as an S-Rank Fire Stun agent who combines powerful Daze application, additional Chain Attacks, and impressive personal damage. Her kit revolves around commanding Bangboo turrets that attack enemies even while she is off-field, allowing the team's main damage dealer to remain active. By accumulating energy through her attacks, Norma can also trigger additional Chain Attacks, giving her teammates more opportunities to deal damage and activate their abilities.

Norma arrives during the second-half banner of ZZZ version 3.3.

Her abilities extend beyond simply stunning enemies. Norma can increase the Stun Damage Multiplier by up to 30% and extend Stun duration by two seconds, giving teammates more time to unleash their strongest attacks. She also benefits from CRIT Rate investment, which improves her personal damage and Daze output, while her ability to gain additional ATK through Sheer Force makes her particularly effective in certain Rupture compositions.

Norma's versatility allows her to support a broad range of characters, including Pyrois, Evelyn, Soldier 11, and the upcoming Severian. She is particularly promising alongside Severian, whose dodge-based gameplay and enhanced attacks benefit from having a Stun agent capable of contributing off-field. Norma's additional Chain Attacks can also create more opportunities for him to unleash his strongest attacks without disrupting his combat flow.

Teams such as Severian, Norma, and Sunna or Astra Yao are therefore worth considering for players planning to pull the new Wind Attack agent. Beyond conventional Attack teams, Norma also works with Rupture characters such as Yixuan and Starlight Billy, particularly alongside Lucia. Players with fewer limited S-Rank agents can also pair Norma with Pyrois and Nicole for a more accessible composition.

As a rerun character, Norma has already established herself as one of the game's strongest Stun options. Her ability to maintain off-field pressure while supporting her team's damage makes her especially valuable for players who want to maximise their main DPS's field time. However, players who already own well-invested Stun agents such as Dialyn or Roxy may have less immediate need for her, depending on their preferred teams.

Her signature W-Engine, Chief Sidekick, also provides a substantial performance boost, although Steam Oven remains a viable alternative for players who do not intend to invest further in her banner.

Pull if:

  • You need a powerful off-field Stun agent who can support multiple Attack and Rupture teams.
  • You plan to pull Severian and want one of his strongest potential Stun partners, particularly if you lack other suitable options.
  • You have powerful damage dealers who could benefit from additional Chain Attacks, extended Stun windows, and consistent off-field Daze.

Skip if:

  • You already own Norma and are satisfied with her current investment.
  • You have well-invested Stun agents such as Dialyn or Roxy who already perform effectively in your existing teams.
