After barely winning yesterday's Ro6 match against Copenhagen Wolves and fighting through delays and disconnects, EG finally met their end today and allowed Fnatic to go through to the Spring playoffs grand finals.
Fnatic took a one game lead by building a meaty AoE-centric front line and allowing their barraging backline of Corki and Nidalee do their magic. With the momentum in their possession, Fnatic decided to go for their signature, yet more rarely applied strategies, running double AD with Caitlyn mid, something that sounded potent against EG's heavy preference towards late game play.
Yet, Fnatic made the same mistake that Copenhagen Wolves did yesterday and allowed EG to get hold of many of their signature champions. Varus, Anivia and Cho'Gath were secured along with the team fighting monsters Alistar and Zac and EG were able to win the tie off after almost an hour of play.
Game three also began exceptionally well for EG, opening with a 5/0/0 Froggen on Ahri before the 15th minute mark. The game seemed hopeless for Fnatic until a perfect fight broke out at their red buff. A rough Equilibrium by sOAZ plus an on-point Leona ultimate allowed Fnatic to pick the better part of EG and mark the beginning of their comeback, one that would see them walk out with the triumphant 2-1.
While EG and Fnatic orchestrated a true spectacle for the senses, such was not the case with Gambit Gaming and SK. Historically very strong against Ocelote's crew, the Russian were ruthless in game one and although the kills were more or less even, there wasn't a single team fight that went wrong for them. At 14-9 final score, Gambit took the lead.
Game two was even more brutal for SK and the boys in blue were treated to an vicious manhandling. Alex and co allowed them to get just two kills, while taking as many as 19 themselves, making for one very one-sided series.
This will lead to a Fnatic vs Gambit Gaming playoffs final tomorrow, with $50,000 awaiting the winner.
