This Friday saw the end of the group stage of the World Cyber Games 2011. Thus the completion of the playoff bracket came to be, although not without an upset or two.
Many people expected EG HuK to do great in the group stage and the Canadian did not disappoint. HuK was a force of destruction in Group A, finishing with the perfect 6-0, a score that only Xigua and Mvp managed to achieve in the previous day. The more surprising result was the second place going to Snute. The Norwegian zerg, mostly famous with his multiple weekly online cup achievements, dropped only a single game to the group leader, leaving other favorites like Morrow behind. The Infested Terran himself, who is currently residing in South Korea, finished with a 3-3 score which was not at all enough to send him to the playoffs.
Group F went to many people's predictions with DarkForce and MarineKing occupying the top two spots. The Korean opened the group with a victory against Hui but his hopes for a perfect run were shaken by DarkForce in his second game. The German then proceeded to nail a 6-0 finish, leaving MarineKing to enjoy the runner-up spot.
Perfection seemed to be a running theme this day as group G saw another 6-0 marathon, achieved by none other than Bling. The UK champion qualified from one of the toughest, most ripe with talent groups in the entire tournament, including players like Kiwikaki, ToD, Strelok, Cloud and Lowely.
The second place in the group was earned by Canadian protoss Kiwikaki. Kiwi made a strong early run, opening his tournament day with three wins in a row before falling to Cloud. After a follow-up victory against ToD, however, Kiwi's play-off spot was pretty much secured.
Finally, Group H ended with an Asian leader duo as Supernova took the top seed, followed by MacSed. SuperNova was on his way to a flawless finish, starting with a 4-0, before falling to Austrian protoss Xei. This did not hinder Supernova's performance much, however, as with an overall 5-1 he still managed to claim the top seed.
MacSed coming second was yet another testament of the strength of the Chinese contingent at the WCG. China is three for three in terms of players qualified for the playoffs and will have extremely strong presence come tomorrow.

Thus, after two days of group stage play, WCG arrives at a very motley playoff bracket, both in terms of race distribution and nationality. The upper half is to feature every single non-mirror match while the lower half is exactly the opposite so December 10th will bring out the blossoming variety of StarCraft.
