In early 2012, YouTube will launch their new online game channel - START. eSports, and in particular IGN ProLeague, will be one of the accents in the program.
START comes as a product of the cooperation between IGN Entertainment and YouTube and looks to be the next major step of putting gaming and eSports out in the open. The new gaming channel will offer shows of different kind such as "The Next Game Boss" (indie game producers competing for funding), "Game Over" (tech and news show), "Celebrity Assassin" (featuring celebrities displaying their gaming skills) and, last but not least, the seasons of IGN Proleague. Having in mind the popularity of YouTube across every type of community, this is one of eSports biggest chances to attract mainstream attention in addition to its dedicated hardcore fan base.
According to Roy Bahat, president of IGN Entertainment, START won't feature informative shows but such that "convey the emotion of being part of the video game world". Bahat further examples some comedy shows that we will be seeing on START and talks about the possibility of expanding their eSports focus beyond IPL.
- "I think we’re going to want to bring great content to the screen. We obviously believe that the IGN Pro League is great content and so we’re open to talking to everybody. But of course we’re going to focus on the stuff that we’re making because we think it’s of very high quality."
