StarCraft 2 to Replace Broodwar at WCG Grand Final

It has been over a week since news of Blizzard games being excluded from the World Cyber Games was reported, but now it seems that only Broodwar will be missing.

Selith, a translator from TeamLiquid.net, recently found an article on fomos.kr stating that the World Cyber Games has officially announced that they will no longer have Broodwar at the Grand Finals. Replacing Broodwar will be StarCraft 2.

A statement translated by Selith states that the decision to choose StarCraft 2 over Broodwar was made after consulting gamers from around the world. This should be a move by WCG that will generate much more viewership as Broodwar has declined in popularity, outside of South Korea, steadily since StarCraft 2's release.

It is not expected that national WCG events will hold Broodwar events as there will be no Grand Final event, but it is still solely based on each of the national organizer's decision. This means that South Korea could still hold a Broodwar event at their national finals.
