Early exit for MSI in EMS

The fourth and final qualifier for the ESL Major Series was held on Sunday, where 46 teams from around the world fought for the last remaining spots. Stop Attacking Axe, plan-B HoN, Online-Kingdom, and Glittering Prizes were the four teams to make it out of the brackets. FnaticMSI, however, was knocked out in the qualification game against OK due to an unfortunate disconnect.

EMS Qualifier Cup #4 was the last chance for teams to qualify for the league's eighth season. The Final 4 consisted of Stop Attacking Axe (544), plan-B HoN (pB), Online-Kingdom (OK), and Glittering Prizes (GP), rounding out the list of the 16 qualified teams.

Last week, Reason Gaming qualified by defeating both MSI and OK on their way to the Final 4. This week, MSI and OK were once again seeded in such a way that they would have to play each other for a qualification spot.

As expected, both teams made it through the first few rounds and met in a deciding qualification match (Match ID: 31175404). Everything rested on this single game; the winner would qualify, the loser would not.

16 minutes in, with the game nearly even (kills were 10-10, MSI had a slight gold and experience lead), [MSI] Trixi was dropped from the game and wasn't able to reconnect. With ESL's "re-hosting for a dropped player" rule only covering the first 10 minutes of a game, Online-Kingdom didn't seem required or inclined to play a rematch.

The teams played it out, but MSI made a few mistakes after that point, on top of being down a player. It was unfortunate to see such a close game between two top-level teams be decided by a connection problem.

Now that the 16 qualified teams have been decided, groupstage rounds are next on the schedule. There is no official streaming planned for these matches, but ESL has opened their league up to any members of the community, and they welcome all casters. The real heart of the competition is about to begin as EMS Season VIII gets underway!
