A breakdown of day 2 in the Round of 32 of the GOMTV StarCraft 2 Open Season 2.

GOMTV StarCraft 2 Open: Round of 32
Korea sanZenith vs. Korea CheckPrime @ Delta Quadrant
sanZenith spawns in the bottom left with CheckPrime at the top left. Zenith decides to fast expand with a forge first, but instead of making a nexus he elects to to make 3 cannons first and ends up blocking his own nexus with a cannon. Not only was he already behind in economy from placing three cannons spread out across his natural, he also wasted another 150 minerals in taking out his own cannon to expand.

Why can't I put my nexus down?...oh wait...

CheckPrime seizes the opportunity to sneak his roaches past the cannon wall in front of Zenith's natural and takes out the forge blocking Zenith's choke. After the forge is taken down, Check would take out Zenith's main nexus. Sealing the game would be several roaches which also manage to sneak past the cannon wall and attack Zenith's natural mineral line with very little resistance. Any easy game for CheckPrime.

The roach around.
Korea sanZenith vs. Korea CheckPrime @ Scrap Station
sanZenith would once again decide to open with a fast expansion. In return CheckPrime would go roaches seeing the fast expansion. And as expected, similar results were produced. Check's early assault with roaches caused Zenith to pull some of his probes to help him defend, but it was no use. The only hope for the Protoss was to finish the stargate in time to pump out a voidray. Zenith would fall before he could even get a single offensive unit out as Prime would take the victory quite easily.

GOMTV StarCraft 2 Open: Round of 32
Korea Leenock vs. Korea NEXSuhoshin @ Scrap Station
This match up was a rare sight in the short history of the GSL, a televised Zerg versus Zerg match. Suhoshin would open up with an earlier expansion over Leenock, while Leenock's single drone mining from an extractor raised a few eyebrows. Once Leenock put down his own expansion hatchery the lone drone mining gas would be joined by two more drones.

Charge!

Once both players had baneling nests down, it turned into a baneling war. Both players showed great control in their baneling play and neither let up in their zergling and baneling production. Leenock was able to push six banelings into Suhoshin's base at one point, but was only able to take out a few drones.

Drones flee in every direction as banelings enter the base.

Both players had banelings morphing left and right, trying to gain an advantage. Possibly one of the most micro intensive matches to have been seen yet, the zergling baneling dances were incredible. Having the fight take place in front of Suhoshin's base, Leenock would eventually roll over Suhoshin.
Korea Leenock vs. Korea NEXSuhoshin @ Metalopolis
The two players spawned at close positions next to each other with Suhoshin at 12 o'clock and Leenock at 9 o'clock. Suhoshin would opt for an early expansion after his spawning pool. In turn, Leenock would also take an expansion after his spawning pool as well. Both players played a fairly mirrored build, but Suhoshin would be a few seconds ahead with his baneling nest before Leenock would make his.

With a sizable force of zerglings and four banelings, Suhoshin would make the first attack and attempt to lay some damage on Leenock. However, just as Suhoshin was able to run up the ramp with several zerglings and his four banelings, two banelings for Leenock would finish in time just to take out two of those banelings and weaken Suhoshin's attack.

Baneling v. Baneling.

Leenock's counter to this attack would prove deadly. After a bit of zergling and baneling micro, Suhoshin was given a deadly blow as several banelings were able to sneak into his base and take out over half of his ten drones that were mining. This left him with no other choice but to GG.

Korea Nada vs. Korea ParkJongHyuk @ Xel'Naga Caverns

The Legendary Nada and by Protoss they mean Terran...for both of them

Nada spawned at the top right to the cheers of many fan girls as his name was announced. ParkJongHyuk spawned at the opposite end with cheers from a slightly more masculine crowd. Both players opened up with mirror builds. Nada would make the first move by making a second refinery and a techlab on his way to making a reaper and a factory.

Fan girls!

ParkJongHyuk would opt for an early command center while teching to stim. Nada would scout the early command center while it was building and snipe out the build scv as well as sniping a MULE while he was in ParkJongHyuk's base. The reaper would fall to a marauder and Nada would transition to banshees with clock while expanding himself.

Nada's first banshee would be sniped out quite easily by ParkJongHyuk, but a second banshee was quickly on the way. This second banshee was taken out early as several of Park's marines caught the banshee by surprise and shot it down. Park would then test the waters and push towards Nada's base with several marines and a couple of marauders. This however was pushed back by Nada's seiged tanks.

Nada would move out at around 10 minutes into the game. Park would attempt to engage Nada's army but failed to do sufficient damage and lost a lot of units to Nada's tanks. Losing only one tank in his push, Nada would take the game 1-0 amongst the cheer of his fans.
Korea Nada vs. Korea ParkJongHyuk @ Metalopolis
At 6 o'clock would be Nada and ParkJongHyuk would spawn at the opposite end at 12 o'clock. Nada opens with a quick second gas and another quick reaper, while Park opts for a factory and a reactor on his barracks. Nada would follow the same opening that he did in game one with a scouting reaper. Parks reactor would actually be used for his factory as he lifts it over to replace the barracks.

With his reactored factory, Park pumps out three quick hellions and does a quick scout and harass of Nada's base, but it does very little damage to Nada's economy. Nada would respond with a banshee into Park's base, but two vikings spawn from a reactored starport just in time to scare the banshee away. Park showing some great use of the single reactor for several buildings.

Park's build enabled him to get out an earlier command center than Nada who had opted for a higher tech build. Nada would push towards Park's base with a sizable army consisting of several marines, a few tanks and two banshees. This push would try to keep a foothold in front of Park's base, but the vikings of Park's would help push back Nada's army by taking out banshees and providing Park's tanks with much needed vision.

Nada would eventually push back with a larger marine and tank army. Once again, establishing a foot hold in front of Park's base, Nada would push his army forward, but once again Park would have the advantage in having his vikings give his tanks vision of Nada's army.

Park's vikings giving his tanks vision advantage.

At what looked like a game changing moment, Park would fly in with four banshees almost taking out several tanks, but a brain-fart moment would occur leaving the banshees to fall to stimmed marines.

While keeping the weak foothold that he had over Park, Nada would expand two more times to the gold natural and his second natural. Nada's containment of Park was unbreakable, even adding in a sensor to his hold. A small mass of vikings would eventually provide a bit of offence for Nada as he tried to engage Park's vikings.

Nada would eventually out mass Park in vikings and takes the advantage away from Park. While at the same time, Nada would take control of the entire map while keeping Park to just three bases to his own six bases.

Both players would attempt to trade bases after Nada dropped several tanks with a fleet of vikings into Park's main base. Park would move out with his entire army into the center taking out three of Nadas extra expansions including the gold. Eventually Nada would counter push back Park's push and slowly overwhelm Park's forces to take the game.

GOMTV StarCraft 2 Open Round of 32
United States IdrA vs. Korea oGsGon @ Jungle Basin
Idra spawns in the top left of the map and Gon spawns in the bottom right. Gon, knowing that Idra enjoys playing a largely macro game, decides to slow down Idra's fast expansion by building an engineering bay at his natural. The engineering bay does its job in slowing down Idra's economy while Gon tries to take advantage by expanding as well.

An engineering bay to delay...

While expanding, Gon would patrol outside Idra's base with four marines, showing great pose and preparation for this match. He even elects to build a bunker at Idra's secondary natural to the top right of the map. This bunker would later slow down Idra's second expansion. While Gon is massing his marines and getting several tanks, Idra is teching towards a spire and has a strong gas economy ready to pump out mutalisks. This is where the game would take a turn for the worst for Gon.

Because of the tanks that Gon decided to tech into, he had a lot of trouble defending against Idra's intial eight mutalisks which were now harassing him from every side. The gas that he could have used to tech to thors or medivacs were now in tanks that could do very little from getting sniped by Idra's mutalisks.

As the game progressed, Idra's mutalisk force would grow stronger and stronger with an even larger zergling and baneling army in front of his base. Gon would eventually have to concede from the overwhelming size of Idra's army and monster economy.
United States IdrA vs. oGsGon @ Xel'Naga Caverns

Gon would open this match up the same way he began the first. Hoping to stifle Idra's play by making him readjust to a slower economic build up, but Idra would have none of it. Instead of following up with a hatchery after removing the engineering bay at his natural, Idra decides to make a roach warren and do a roach push.

Luckily for Gon, he scans Idra's base just in time to see a roach warren and decides to bunker up. After bunkering up and fending off Idra's roach push, Gon would tech to blue-flame hellions and proceed to harass and scout with them. This would be effective in keeping Idra in and around his base while Gon expanded with almost no units defending his natural. However, the losses of his hellions would catch up.

Gon would never catch up to Idra's macro and economy as he was behind until the end of the game. At one point Gon decided to move out with a small marine and tank army, only to find himself flanked by roaches. Idra, knowing full well of his dominance, elected to tech to ultralisks and infestors before moving out. He would eventually roll over Gon's forces and attain a GG from the Terran player.
